Decorative plaster is widely used for decoration of premises. For many years it has been used both for internal works and for external ones. It has wear-resistant properties, water resistant, after applying to the surface, forms a strong layer. This type of finishing material allows you to use many different design solutions, gives the room texture and original color design. Various drawings on the surface are applied using rollers for decorative plaster. Having studied the technology, it is not difficult to make the finishing with such material. You can do it yourself without attracting expensive professionals.

Decorative plaster

Before learning how to apply different ornaments on a layer of decorative plaster, you need to become more familiar with this material. It is a particularly strong coating, which includes certain fillers. For example, pebbles, crumbs of marble, granite, mica, quartz, wood fiber. Necessarily in the composition of such a solution there are polymeric and acrylic substances, they are responsible for the binding functions. Thanks to them, the plaster acquires elasticity and sets after a certain period of time. It is quite enough to apply an ornament to the surface using texture rollers.

Types of plaster

There are two main types of decorative plaster:

  1. Textured. Such a solution forms a relief immediately after application. This is due to the presence of granules in it. By their size, the mixture is divided into large, medium, fine and fine.
  2. Structural. Forms an elastic and smooth layer, to apply relief use rollers for decorative plaster. The color of the solution is predominantly white, it is tinted by adding special colorants.

Types of platens for decorative plaster

Features of this material allow you to create a unique and original relief on the surface. Each of them corresponds to a certain type of rollers. Consider the most common of them:

  • A model with a pile mimics the surface of the fur. From its length and thickness will depend on the ornament. Long nap allows you to give the plaster porosity, and a short - a smoother surface.
  • The relief roller with convex waves allows creating a wavy relief.
  • Plastic nozzles with holes. Thanks to such rollers, a sufficiently embossed surface is obtained, alternating recesses and protrusions.
  • The roller with loops as much as possible believably imitates the texture of natural stone.
  • Models with convex crisp ornaments are used to apply certain patterns.

Rollers for textured plasters: selection rules

In order to apply the necessary relief to the surface of decorative plaster, the main thing is to correctly pick up the platen.

  • The protruding elements are obtained by means of nozzles with depressions.
  • In order to squeeze out the ornament on the wall, you need a roller with bulges.
  • Simulation of the brickwork is made using a special nozzle with transverse grooves, which are staggered.
  • Rubber with a wound bundle of rollers create a picture of natural wood.
  • The roller for walls from strongly compressed rough fabric or a skin imitates a marble.
  • In order to impart texture of textiles to plaster, it is enough to glue a piece of cloth onto the rubber nozzle.

How to create complex patterns on the surface of decorative plaster?

Very beautiful looks natural ornament on the plastered wall. In order to create it, it is enough to use a relief roller and a not very thick solution. Apply the mixture with progressive movements, observing the chosen direction, which in the future is not recommended.

The situation with complex artistic patterns is much more complicated. Of course, there are rollers for decorative plaster with certain reliefs. However, it is impossible to use the above-described technology, since in some places the mixture will be superimposed in a very thick layer, and other areas will remain without the finishing material altogether. In this case, it is most important to first apply the plaster with a spatula, and only after that go for a curly roller. Speed, force of pressure and direction of movement should be the same throughout the site. After carrying out the first strip, all subsequent ones are performed back to back, overlaps and indents are not allowed.

Roller with own hands

Rollers for textured plaster can be purchased at any construction shop. However, if there is a desire to give the finish a truly individual and unique look, then such a tool can be made independently. For these purposes, a wallpaper rubber roller, thick tourniquet, rubber or leather strips (sometimes you can use ordinary erasers) and glue are perfect.

From the skin or other materials described above, it is necessary to cut out some figure. Its form is chosen individually. You need to paste the pieces at a certain distance, so that a distinct relief appears on the surface of the plaster. It is desirable to decorate the edges of the nozzle as closely as possible, so that when working with a roller there is no difference between the sides.

Application of decorative plaster with roller

So, let's get acquainted with the detailed technology of applying ornaments to the surface of the plaster.

  1. It is necessary to remove all the old coating, the problem areas are leveled and, if necessary, are sealed. And after complete drying, primed with a special agent.
  2. When using two or more colors in the finish, you should apply the plaster in several layers. For example, the first - draft, the second - a different color, and so on.
  3. For a clear separation of the palette, you can use a paint tape.
  4. During the application of the finishing coat, the direction of movement must be only from the top down.
  5. Decorative plaster dries in about 20 minutes. Therefore, it should be applied in small areas, in order to be able to apply patterns using texture rolls.
  6. The degree of pressure, speed and direction of the tool should not be different. Otherwise, you can not get a solid canvas.
  7. If the convex faces of the pattern are too coarse, they are corrected with a brush or foam rubber.
  8. After the decorative layer has completely dried, use a special net to gently sand the resulting prints.
  9. The surface is painted after 48 hours.

Other ways of drawing patterns

Rollers for decorative plaster - not the only tool for drawing drawings on the surface. For this purpose, you can use a foam sponge, a brush, a hard brush, a rough cloth.

  • Pattern the sponge. The image is soft, without rough transitions, spotted shape. Sponge with large pores allows you to give the surface a pronounced texture, and with smaller, on the contrary, smoother. During the drawing, the movements should be smooth and blotting. You can combine a large and small sponge on one surface. It turns out a deep and original pattern.
  • The use of tissue. The easiest way. The fabric is attached to the roller, tightened tight, which allows you to create a characteristic pattern. With this tool you can work with a liquid solution.
  • A variety of patterns are applied with a brush.

With the help of platens for decorative plaster, you can give the room an original and unique design. Do not be afraid to experiment and make non-standard decisions.
