What is a wood polishing machine for?

During repair, and during the operation of certain products, it often becomes necessary to bring the surface to an ideally smooth state. You can do this manually using sandpaper, but it takes a lot of time and effort. To accelerate the process, you can use a special power tool - a grinder. These devices are produced in several types, have different purposes and are applied at different stages of surface treatment.

Belt sanding machine

On wood most often work as a band-machine. This is due to the fact that it is easy to handle such a device: the center of gravity is low, the grinding belt is simply replaced, and the dust is collected in a special bag. Some models involve connecting the hose to the machine from a vacuum cleaner. This is a very convenient method of dust removal. All this allows you to handle significant surfaces in a short period of time.

A grinding machine for wood can have different power (from 500 to 1200 W) and the speed of the belt (from 75 to 550 m / min). Some models provide for the adjustment of these parameters, which allows you to choose the mode of operation for each surface to be processed and the task to be performed. For beginners it is useful to limit the depth of grinding - it will not allow you to remove a larger layer of wood than necessary.

Sanding belts have different granularity. It is desirable in the kit to have different types of this consumable material: coarse-grained for rough processing, medium- and fine-grained for finishing and finishing of surfaces. Well, if the wood grinder has flat edges - this makes it possible to process products and surfaces in corners.

Vibratory, or flat grinders

This wood grinder has a flat rectangular platform. The surface is treated by the vibration of the platform on which the abrasive sheet is fixed (a piece of ordinary sandpaper cut to the size of the platform). The sheet is fastened differently: on some models by means of clamps, on others - with the help of Velcro. In either case, the replacement takes place in a matter of seconds.

Grinding platform can be made of special impact-resistant plastic, metals and alloys. When choosing a tool, pay attention to the sole: it should be in the right shape, be without dents, chips or other damage.

The power of this type of grinders is less: 130-600 W. It is useful to adjust the frequency of the stroke, which allows you to choose the optimal mode of operation for each surface. The dust collection system is the same: in a special bag or with a vacuum cleaner. Some models have removable platforms of different shapes, which makes it possible to process figured products. A vibratory wood grinder allows a finer surface finish (as compared to tape type machines), but has lower productivity.

Eccentric or orbital grinders

This type of equipment is used for finishing the products. The trajectory of the movement of the grinding element resembles an orbit, the rotation speed of the disk is several thousand revolutions per minute. With this type of machine, the dust is very fine, so it is advisable to use a vacuum cleaner, not a bag. The eccentric wood sanding machine has automatic stopping of the sole, speed regulation and an additional handle. This makes the work more comfortable and safe. But the circular shape of the grinding element does not allow the processing of surfaces in the corners. This is a major drawback of this type of machine.
