Exotic hoya. Care

The breeding and cultivation of unusual ornamental plants from exotic countries today is quite a fashionable occupation. On the windowsills of modern flower growers, lovers will no longer see colorful geraniums and many-faced violets. In their place came the unique southern specimens of the flora of our planet, such as hoya fleshy. The popularity of this evergreen ivy (liana), which grows in nature in Australia, India, Polynesia, South-East and South Asia, is explained simply: maximum beauty with minimal costs. Nevertheless, there are some things that you should know before you decide to acquire this wonderful houseplant.

Depending on the type of hoyi (and there are more than 200) and the season, the leafy part of the young plant may have a pinkish, reddish or brownish color. The appearance of the leaves is also diverse. For example, hoya bella is ovate-lanceolate, small, but thick, slightly pointed and slightly convex. And in the hoya, they are oblong-linear.

As for the flowers, they are all collected in umbrellas, but differ in a variety of colors, bizarre species and sizes. Already mentioned hoya gorgeous (Bella) will please its owners with small (about 1.5 cm diameter) waxy flowers with clearly delineated five petals. As a rule, they have a white color with a purple crown. In turn, hoya multiflorous is a representative of the species with numerous yellow flowers that have narrow petals and a crown decorated with arcuate spurs. In general, flowers can have the most incredible coloring. In nature, there is not only hoyi, blooming in dark blue hues.

Hoya. Care

It should be noted that sometimes plants can cause allergic reactions when touched. In addition, stunningly strongly smelling flowers can cause somatic disorders. Some people complain, in particular, about headaches and sleep disorders.

Nevertheless, the very hoya care is not particularly thorough. She, like most tropical plants, needs a lot of sun and moisture. However, this does not mean that it can be poured with a bucket of water and left on the south window sill. Bright sunlight, especially at noon, will lead to burns of the leaves and, possibly, the death of the whole plant. He will like places on the windows on the east or west side.

Hoya, whose care is not problematic, can still get sick. Her condition is affected, in particular, by insufficient heat. Therefore, those in whose apartments in winter the temperature falls below 16 degrees, and in summer exceeds 25 degrees, it is better to think about another flower. The plant will also not like dry air, but multiple sprinkles in the summer season and special bathing will remind you of the natural habitat. In this case, the soil can not be left in water for more than two hours, and the plant itself should be in the water for no more than 4 hours.

The most suitable ready land for this type of lian is the soil for orchids. For those who prepare the soil for plants, it is necessary to mix peat, sand and leaf land in equal proportions. Add 2 parts of clay-leaf earth. Peat and sand can be replaced by one part of the greenhouse soil. During the preparation and flowering of hoyu it is possible to "feed" fertilizers with a complex of minerals no more than once every 2-3 weeks.

The plant reproduces by cuttings. During the first few weeks hoya care does not require at all. After the stem releases the root, it is planted in a pot of medium size and contains all the rules described above. Transplant the plant preferably not more than once every 3 years. In addition, it is better to cut it for the winter so that in the spring the hoya would develop better and bear fruit.
