Balanoposthitis in children: causes, symptoms and treatment

Balanoposthitis in children is a fairly common disease. It is accompanied by inflammation of the prepuce. And if in adulthood such a disease occurs as a result of venereal infections, then in childhood the causes are completely different. In any case, the doctor's help is simply necessary - in the absence of treatment, the disease can go on into a chronic form.

Balanoposthitis in children: the main reasons

Inflammation of the prepuce can develop even in infancy. Here are the most common causes of the disease:

  • Of course, quite often the disease develops as a result of neglecting the personal hygiene of the baby.
  • Sometimes pathology is the result of childhood phimosis. The fact is that among boys, the narrowing of the prepuce is quite common. Under the skin is accumulated smegma, which is basically dead cells of the epithelium of the glans penis. If the inside gets infection (it can be staphylococci, streptococci, E. coli), then inflammation develops.
  • It has been proved that children with diabetes mellitus or high sugar content in urine are more prone to such a disease.
  • It is much less common allergic balanoposthitis. An allergic reaction can occur on food, but in this case, shampoos, soaps and other cosmetic products, as well as synthetic undergarments, are most often used as allergens.

Whatever the reasons, it is very important to notice the first signs of illness in time and show the child to the doctor.

Acute balanoposthitis in children

The acute form of the disease, of course, begins abruptly and suddenly. You can see redness and swelling of the foreskin. The child complains of pain in the penis, has difficulty with urination. The baby becomes restless and irritable. There may be an increase in body temperature. With the development of the disease, purulent discharge is noticeable .

Chronic balanoposthitis in children

Chronic form of the disease is accompanied by less pronounced symptoms. The child suffers for months - the periods of aggravation are replaced by temporary well-being. There is a constant itch in the head area. The baby becomes restless, does not sleep well, sometimes complains of pain during urination. On examination, you can see a small puffiness and redness, and under the foreskin - a white coating.

Balanoposthitis in children: treatment and diagnosis

As a rule, the diagnosis is not difficult - a general examination is enough to determine the disease. Nevertheless, smear analysis is performed to determine the pathogen and its sensitivity to a particular group of drugs.

In most cases, treatment is easy. Doctors recommend therapeutic baths from the dissolved tablets "Furatsilina". To this end, you can also use a decoction of chamomile. To conduct the procedure, warm up the solution to a temperature of 37 degrees, pour it into a convenient small dish (for example, a mug) and lower the sexual organ of the boy there.

In addition, the head and foreskin must be treated with ointments (sometimes with drugs that contain antibiotics). And, of course, it is necessary to strictly follow the doctor's instructions and observe the rules of hygiene.
