One of the most common childhood infections is epidemic parotitis, or mumps. It occurs mainly in children from 2 to 14 years old, adults can get sick if they do not carry it in childhood. As in the case of chickenpox, after mumps, persistent immunity persists for life. It is believed that the younger the child, the easier it is to tolerate the disease, but doctors recommend that they get vaccinated better. This disease is very contagious and transmitted by airborne droplets. Therefore, parents need to know the symptoms of mumps in children, so as not to confuse it with other infections. Most often, they get infected by direct contact with a sick person, because the virus does not survive long in the external environment.
It is very easy to recognize the symptoms of mumps in children. The photo of the ill children shows how much their neck swells, the area behind their ears and even under the jaw. The tumor may be small, but sometimes even the lobes of the ears bulge forward. The skin in these places is stretched and glossy. Sometimes glands inflame only on one side. This all causes the child suffering, it is difficult for him to eat and talk, turn his head, there is dryness in his mouth and an unpleasant smell.
Symptoms of mumps in children usually pass without special treatment after 7-10 days. But all the same it is necessary to consult a doctor and carry out all his orders. Parrot is dangerous not in itself, but in those complications that it can cause. Most often it happens in boys: develops inflammation or even atrophy of the testicles, which can lead to infertility. Possible complications of mumps are also serous meningitis, encephalitis, diseases of the thyroid and pancreas. Inadequate treatment, deafness, periodontitis or tooth decay may also develop.
To facilitate the condition of the child, you can give him drugs such as "Dimedrol" and "Suprastin." Do not take antibiotics: they do not act on the virus and can only cause a worsening of the condition due to a decrease in immunity. The patient must fully eat. To make it easier to eat, food should be given in liquid form. In addition, you can take vitamins and decoctions of fortified herbs: limes, sage and mint.
