For the first time with the King of Scorpions in the performance of Duane Johnson, the audience met in the second part of the adventure film "The Mummy Returns." The story of the character was so interesting that the company "Universal" decided to make a whole spin-off, dedicated to this hero, and tell the story of the Akkad Metaes. The success of the tape was deafening, which served as the creation of several more films, a prequel and a sequel, although here, the actors of the "King of Scorpions" in every new part constantly changed. To date, there are four films of this franchise. The first of them was released in 2002, and the last one - in 2015.

"The Scorpion King": actors and roles

In the role of the mercenary-Akkad Metaes, the overthrown King of Memnon in the performance of Stephen Brand, again made famous wrestler Dwayne "Rock" Johnson. The role of the King of Scorpions brought him world popularity and an excellent start in the cinema. It is from this picture that you can safely start reading a fairly extensive filmography of Johnson. The role of the captive and subsequently the beloved Metaes, the sorceress of Cassandra, was performed by the actress of cinema and television Kelly Hu. The leader of the Nubians Balthazar, an associate of the Akkadts, was played by Michael Clarke Duncan, famous for the role of John Coffey in the Green Mile, as well as in a number of other equally popular films. The film also starred Roger Rees (King Feron), Bernard Hill (Philos), the future star of the Twilight saga Peter Facinelli (Takmet), Grant Heslov (the savior of Metaes - Arpede-horse thief) and many others. In the director's chair of the project was Chuck Russell, known for his work on such films as "The Mask" and "Nightmares on Elm Street 3". And the creator of the "Mummy" Stephen Sommers acted as a producer, and participated in writing the script for the first film.

Prequel or the second part of "The King of Scorpions"

After a lapse of six years after the release of the first film, Universal decided to revive the history of Metaes and tell what happened before the events described in the first part. In 2008, "The Scorpion King 2: The Ascension of the Warrior" was released immediately on DVD, bypassing the cinemas. It was an unexpected and not the most successful move by the creators of the project. The film was directed by Russell Malkahi. Despite the fact that all the same Stephen Sommers worked on the film, the actors of "The King of Scorpions 2" were completely different. After the first film Duane Johnson flew up quickly, and he did not want to return to this project, so the role of Metaes went to the younger serial Michael Kopon, especially as the plot tells the story of the young years of the future King of Scorpions. Karen David appeared in the role of his beloved, militant Leila . The main enemy, the black magician Sargon, who killed Metaes's father - is American athlete-actor Randy Couture, and his dark goddess of Astart's death is Natalie Becker. Also in the film participated Simon Kuotterman, Tom Wu, Peter Butler, Andreas Visnivsky and others. Reviews about the film were very different, but to the first part he is exactly far away.

A completely different story

In 2012, the movie "The Scorpion King 3: The Book of the Dead" was released on DVD, like the second part, without showing in cinemas. In this tape, the narrative line comes from the end of the first part, so it can be called a sequel. But there was an entirely different team of producers, writers and filmmakers working on the tape. The actors of "The King of Scorpions 3" are also completely different than in the first film. Quite famous on television, but almost unrecognizable in the movie, Victor Webster became the new Metas. His partner, Tsukai, played Celina Lo. Famous wrestler Batista appeared on the screen in the image of Agromail. Despite the fact that such actors of the movie "The Scorpion King 3", as the star of "Titanic" Billy Zane (King Taus) and "Hellboy" Ron Perlman (Horus), were also on set, the tape from a complete failure did not save.

One more attempt

In early 2015, the long-suffering franchise received another film, and again unsuccessful. Like the two previous ones, "The Scorpion King 4: The Lost Throne" was released only on video. In the continuation of the story, the producer and cast members were again replaced. The role of Metaes was tried on by another serial actor Victor Webster. King Zakkura played the unforgettable Rutger Hauer. Other actors of "The Scorpion King 4" are Ellen Hallman, Barry Bostwick, Michael Bean, Will Kemp, Royce Gracie. The attempt to continue the history of Metaes again failed.
