Heroes of the series "Rome": Lucius Waren and Titus Pulo

In 2005, the historical television series "Rome" was released. He talked about the period of the transformation of Rome into an empire. Despite the fact that in the center of the plot were Julius Caesar, Octavian Augustus, Atia, Cleopatra and other historical figures, a lot of screen time was given to the fate of two legionaries, known as Titus Pulo and Lucius Waren.

Character prototypes

Like many other characters in the television series, Titus and Lucius had real prototypes. However, they were called somewhat differently: Lucius Voren and Titus Pullon. The mention of the fate of these valorous men is in the Notes on the Gallic War, written by Caesar himself.

These heroes were centurions who claimed the same position. Because of this, they constantly clashed. During the next battle, when Pullon was threatened with mortal danger, Lucius came to his aid. Later, Tit rendered a return service to Voren and saved him. Despite the bloody battle, both heroes survived, and their valor and nobleness delighted Caesar himself.

Lucy Waren: biography in season 1

In the television series, the fate of the hero was changed and supplemented by events. By birth, the hero was a plebeian. His father was from Etruria, and his mother was from the tribe of the herdsmen in Modena. Although the parents were not rich, they were able to give their son an education.

It is not known how many years Lucius married Niobe, but, apparently, it was very early. A couple of years the couple had 2 daughters.

When Caesar launched the Gallic campaign, Varen was forced to leave his family and go to serve in the 13th legion. With family, he did not see him for 8 years, during which, due to a bureaucratic mistake, Lucius Waren was recognized dead.

At the beginning of the "Rome" events, the Gallic war was already over, and a riot against Caesar the triumphant ripened in the Senate. The spies of Pompey abducted regimental banners. In search of the loss were sent two legionnaires, not getting along with each other - centurion Lucius and a soldier-bully Titus. By the will of fate, the heroes manage to return the robbery and save Caesar Octavian's grand-nephew. In the process of these events, Lucius and Titus become friends.

Together with Mark Antony, Varen returns to Rome, where he meets his relatives. He finds out that his young daughter gave birth to a son, and his wife considered him dead and did not receive the corresponding payments. Despite the fact that Lucius Waren is a staunch supporter of the republic, he turns against his will into Caesar's revolt and civil war.

Throughout the season, the hero tries to establish relations with his wife, and also constantly pulls out his unlucky friend Titus from various troubles. Thanks to a personal acquaintance with Caesar and several services (one of them returned the stolen treasury of Rome), Lucius Varen proved himself as a loyal person, so he is soon appointed magistrate, and after the senator of Rome.

Being a loyal bodyguard of Guy Julius, Varen prevents the conspirators from carrying out his murder. However, the mother of Brutus Servilia learns the truth about Niobe and on the eve of the assassination of Caesar through servants informs her himself Lucia. The fact is that during his absence, his wife had an affair with another, from which she gave birth to a child presented to Varen as his grandson.

Upon learning of the deception, the hero throws Caesar and hurries to Niobe. But the woman, fearing reprisal, ends up with herself. And Caesar, left without Varen's protection, perishes at the hands of the conspiratorial senators.

The fate of the hero in season 2

Being in a state of passion after the death of his wife, Lucius Waren leaves his children and leaves the house. His long-time enemy kidnaps the babies of Warren, and then reports that he killed them. In frustrated feelings, the hero returns to the service of Mark Antony.

Titus Pulo, who serves Octavian, accidentally learns that his friend's children are alive, and together with Lucius rescues them from slavery. A happy reunion with the children does not happen, as Varen learns that his children hate him and find him guilty of the death of his mother and all subsequent troubles. Disappointed, Lucius Waren leaves for Egypt with Mark Antony for a long time.

When the confrontation between Octavian and Mark Antony approaches the final and Cleopatra and his lover end up with themselves, Lucius takes Caesarion and goes to a meeting with Titus. However, the old friends are attacked by a patrol, and in the battle Waren is seriously injured. Seeing that his friend is dying, Pulo brings him to the children to say goodbye. Last minutes Waren spends in the circle of relatives and reconciles with them.

Lucius Waren: actor Kevin McKidd

Honest, but unlucky Varena was played by Scottish artist Kevin McKidd.

Prior to "Rome", he starred in secondary roles in such projects as "On the Needle", "The Land of Fairies", "Sixteen Years of a Hangover," "The Kingdom of Heaven" and "Hannibal: Rise." However, the role of Lucius became truly popular.

After the success of the television series, Mackkind was invited to play small roles in high-budget films "The Last Legion", "The Bride's Friend", "Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief". However, interest gradually decreased.

Today, McCready is in the "Anatomy of Passion" in the role of Dr. Owen Hunt, and is also engaged in scoring cartoons.

Tit Pulo

The best friend of Warren is the unlucky strong man, the drunkard and the womanizer Tit Pulo. Despite his shortage, this man is very sincere and ready for anything for the sake of his dear people.

His father did not know this hero at all, and his mother was a slave. She died when Titus was still very small. The only family that the hero knew was the 13th legion. Unlike the educated Warren, Pulo was not well versed in culture and politics, but in life was wiser than his comrade.

Seeing the friend's problems with his wife, Pulo gives Varenna advice, and then together with Octavian conducts an investigation and finds out about the treason of Niobe. Killing her lover, Titus does not tell the truth to a friend, sparing his feelings.

Throughout the series, Tit Pulo often helps Varenna. In turn, the more sober-minded Lucius often pulls a comrade out of problems that he falls into because of his violent temper. It is Lucius who persuades Titus to return the gold of Rome to Caesar, and also rescues Pulo when he becomes a gladiator because of the murder of the groom by his lover.

Titus is an indirect culprit of the death of a friend. The fact is that when Caesar was in Egypt, Cleopatra wanted to conceive a child in order to gain influence over the great conqueror. However, the woman feared that she could not conceive, so she asked one of the soldiers who escorted her to spend the night with her. This kind of Samaritan was Titus Pulo, and Caesarion was really his son. In addition to Titus and Cleopatra, only Lucius Waren knew about this. The story was kept secret for many years, but after the suicide of the Egyptian queen Pulo asked a friend to save his son. Carrying out this assignment, Waren was mortally wounded.

If in the war, in friendship and with finances Titus was lucky, then with personal life is not particularly. Being an avid ladies' man, Pulo never missed a whore, but having met a slave named Irina, he falls in love with her for real. Learning that she secretly twisted the affair with another, Titus can not restrain herself and kills an opponent, for which she loses everything, turning into a gladiator slave.

From this situation, he helps to get rid of Waren, however, being seriously wounded, Pulo remains in the house of a friend, where he is courted by Irina and gradually forgives him and falls in love. Having married, the spouses are at first happy, Irina becomes pregnant. However, soon she and her child die from an unknown disease.

Having suffered a great loss, Titus Pulo gradually converges with the maid, but later learns that it was she who poisoned his wife and child in order to achieve Pulo's love. In despair, he kills a mean woman.

Having received instructions from Octavian to kill Caesarion, Pulo rescues his son, and afterwards, having lied to the new emperor, leaves the service and leaves with the boy.

Ray Stevenson - the performer of the role of Tita Pulo

The namesake of the author of the "Treasure Island", in contrast to Kevin McKidda - British. At first he dreamed of becoming an artist, but later became involved in the profession of an actor.

Before "Rome" Stevenson was shot very little, but, thanks to the role of Dagonet in "King Arthur", the beginning actor managed to attract attention.

After the closure of the "Rome" project, Stevenson was often invited to play minor characters in such famous films as "The Book of Eli", "Thor 1, 2", "Divergent 1-3" and others. Also, the artist performs the main role in the television series "Black sails" today.

Most of the adventures of Titus and Lucius are fiction writers. Despite this, the characters with their uneasy characters and destinies fit perfectly into the storyline, and thanks to the wonderful game of Ray Stevenson and Kevin McKidda became the favorites of the audience all over the world.
