Kursk NPP (Kurchatov)

Kursk NPP is one of the largest power plants in Russia. It is located on the bank of the river. Seimas. Kursk is located forty kilometers from the building. The nuclear power plant consists of 4 power units. The total power of all of them is 4 GW.

General information

The address where Kursk NPP is located is Kurchatov, Promzona, ABK-1. On the basis of the nuclear power plant, there is also an information and analytical department responsible for communication with the public. This center also receives information in the media about those or other events held by the Kursk NPP. Contacts of the department: (47131) 4-95-41 (tel / fax), (47131) 2-32-60, 5-43-68, 4-85-44 - information center, (47131) 5-68-13, 5-46-38 - edition of the newspaper. The publication, which is issued on the basis of the facility, is called "For a peaceful atom."

History of construction

In 1965, in the USSR, and more specifically, in the European part of the country, there was an acute shortage of solid fuel. In this regard, a special program was adopted for the construction of nuclear power plants. The construction of the Kursk NPP was planned on the same site where the GRES was planned. The project of the nuclear power plant was carried out by the Moscow Institute. S. Ya. Zhuk and the Leningrad VNIPIET. According to the documentation, each block of the facility contained 1 RBMK-1000 reactor and 2 turbines. The first explorers were Leningrad specialists. They made preliminary work on the ground.

The bulk of the further activities fell on the team of the next exploratory expedition. The staff conducted research on the main and auxiliary elements of the future nuclear power plant. In addition, the Lipinsky, Dichnyansky and Tarasovski (Kurchatov) hydroelectric structures were discovered to supply drinking water, deposits of loams and sands for construction. At the end of these works followed the activities of the second and third stages. Engineering and geological surveys were carried out for the construction of industrial and residential buildings. Kursk NPP was built by people who came from all over the Union. On the site, except Russian, Belarusians, Georgians, Bashkirs, Kalmyks, Kazakhs, Ukrainians worked.

Description

Two phases of the facility (each of 2 power units) were put into operation in the period from 1976 to 1985. The nuclear station was the second one, where RBMK-1000 reactors were installed (Leningradskaya became the first one). Each power unit has the following equipment:

  • Turbines K-500-65 / 3000 (2 pieces).
  • Reactor uranium-graphite RBMK-1000 with additional auxiliary systems.
  • Generators TBV-500-2, 2 pcs. The power of each is 500 MW.

Each block is equipped with separate special rooms. They contain reactors, control panels, auxiliary equipment, fuel transportation systems. Each turn is equipped with a common room for special water and gas purification systems. For all four units, which includes the Kursk NPP, one machine room is equipped.

Distribution of energy

The station operates on 9 power lines:

  • 3 to 750 kV: for the Belgorod and Bryansk regions, as well as for the northeast of Ukraine.
  • 1 - 110 kV is used to backup the needs of the station.
  • 6 lines of 330 kV: two for the north of Ukraine, 4 - for the Kursk region.

It must be said that this nuclear power plant is considered one of the most important nodes of the UES of Russia. The main consumer of energy is the "Center" system. It covers 19 regions of the Central Federal District. The share, which is accounted for by the Kursk NPP at the installed capacity of all Chernozemye stations, is more than 50%. In addition, the facility provides energy to 90% of industrial enterprises located in the region.

The construction of the fifth power unit

The construction of this part of the station was started in 1985, in December. In the 1990s, the work was suspended several times, and then resumed again. In the middle of the 2000s, construction was almost not carried out, even despite the fact that the power unit had a sufficiently high level of readiness. By March 2011, it became known that 45 billion rubles could be required to commission this part of the station in operation. And 3.5 years.

Justification of facility 5 of the power unit

In the course of the analysis, the specialists concluded that the original project did not take into account the impact of the network restriction, in which the use of five power units is unreasonable from an economic point of view. In this regard, in March 2012, it was officially announced that construction under the original plan will not continue. The variant of using a new reactor of the VVER-1200 type was considered. But in this case it is necessary to radically change the whole project. Less obvious was the justification for completing the fifth power unit if the construction of the replacement facility Kurskaya NPP-2 in the settlement of the village was taken into account. Makarovka, on the other side of the Seimas. Approximately new blocks will be put into operation until the time of the withdrawal of the spent elements of the Kursk nuclear power plant - in the period from 2020 to 2022.

Kursk NPP: service

In the current (2014) year from August 22, scheduled activities began at the 4th power unit. In particular, the seventh turbogenerator was repaired, which was disconnected from the grid for the period of work. According to the information received from the Center for Public Relations, the events that are included in the annual schedule are held. The power of the 4th power unit was reduced by 50% for the duration of the work. There was also a repair of the block number 3. It was launched on August 31 of the current year, 2014. Planned activities, diagnostics and modernization of equipment and systems were carried out. The radiation background in the territory where Kursk NPP is located, the photo of which is presented in the article, and in the vicinity of the facility does not exceed the established norms and natural background indicators.

Terms and Conditions for Employees

It should be noted that one of the primary tasks that the leadership sets itself is to ensure security for the personnel. In addition, the directorate of the Kursk nuclear power plant creates for the workers economic conditions that promote the provision of a higher living standard of the social. Consumption. As objects, through which the implementation of tasks, the "Energetik" (a complex of sports facilities) and "Orbita" (sanatorium-preventorium) are performing. The first one was opened in 1986. Every year in the physical culture and health groups and sections involved more than 2 thousand people. In the pools daily wellness sessions are held. In the complex "Energetik" are training for experienced and novice athletes. For all the divisions of the Kursk NPP, the time for performing sports events, inter-shop and in-shop contests for various sports is presented. Sanatorium "Orbita" has been operating since 1987. It is located in a pine forest, in a picturesque area on the right bank of the Seim, not far from Kurchatov (fifteen kilometers). The departmental health resort includes a dining room, sleeping buildings, a medical complex. A library is open on the territory of the sanatorium, a cinema hall is open. Holidaymakers can visit sports and dance grounds, a billiard room and a gym, a phytobar and a solarium. Over the past few years, physiotherapy and dental equipment have been updated, a salt mine has been purchased . On the territory of the health resort there is a modern hydropathic institution. Sanatorium "Orbita" is an excellent base for organizing recreational and recreational activities for employees of the nuclear power plant.
