X-Men are characters that are known to almost everyone. But all the details about the famous mutants know, perhaps, only their dedicated fans. We will get to know each other and find out who they are - the X-people. Characters and their abilities are the focus of this article.

It should be remembered that superheroes, which will be discussed further, are divided into two groups: participants in stories of numerous comics and a series of films, as well as several spin-offs. In addition, the mutant heroes are divided into two warring groups: this is a team that called itself the X-Men, and their opponents are the Brotherhood of Mutants.

X-Men (comic book characters): how it all began

For the first time the mutant team appeared in 1963 in the comic book publisher Marvel Comics. Before that, some of the characters were heroes of other stories. "Marvel" is one of two well-known publishing houses engaged in the creation of popular comic books. In the 1960s, the company began releasing stories about heroes with supernatural abilities. At the same time, "Marvel" departed from the cliché of the image of the superman. Their heroes also suffer from problems, turmoil and loneliness, quarrel with each other and behave like ordinary people. This approach appealed to readers, and Marvel comics quickly gained popularity. At this time, and appeared X-people - the characters that are now known to the whole world.

Initially, it was the five heroes, later joined by other mutants.

After the success of the first comic books (in the 1970s), another X-Men team was created, and many new characters appeared. Today, the "Marvel" universe, in which the mutants live, has grown to an incredible size, and the number of its heroes totals more than 70 characters.

Team name history

There are two versions of the origin of the name "X-Men". The characters of comics and films carry the so-called gene "Factor X", which causes their amazing abilities. According to another version, they named themselves in honor of their mentor and teacher, the scholar Charles Xavier (his nickname is Professor X).

The characters of the movie "X-Men" and the heroes of the comic strip of the same name - is there any difference?

Despite the fact that movies about the adventures of superheroes-mutants created based on comic books, there are significant differences between the screen versions and the original. Differences do not concern the abilities of characters, appearance or character, but their stories. Changes are mainly made by writers in certain facts about the biography of the characters.

Professor X

The X-Men, whose list of characters is presented below, is headed by a genius, Professor Charles Xavier. He is an expert in several fields of science: anthropology, biophysics, psychology and genetics. He is also a mutant. His abilities - incredibly fast processing of information, reading thoughts, creating hallucinations. Can feel the presence of other mutants at a short distance. He is the founder of the Institute of Gifted Teens. This is a school in which young mutants learn to control their abilities. The first graduates of the Institute entered the initial composition of the team "X-Men" (the characters with the photo are discussed below).

Charles Xavier protects the rights of mutants, but, unlike his old friend Magneto, does not consider people enemies.

Wolverine

This is one of the most famous and favorite characters. The second name is Logan. Two films are devoted to him, spin-offs of the main story about mutants: "X-Men: Beginning." Wolverine "and" Wolverine: Immortal. "

He has a super-capacity for regeneration. Due to this, aging is very slow. The hero is armed with long claw daggers that appear at the moment of danger. During one of the experiments, Wolverine's skeleton was covered with adamantium, a metal with incredible strength. Despite his excellent fighting qualities, he negatively regards killings and destroys the enemy only in case of emergency. All the stories about Wolverine are based on his loss of memory, which he is trying to restore and remember what happened to him.

It is part of the first team created in 1963. It looks awesome - tall, covered with thick wool of blue color. A brilliant scientist and analyst, he had disproportionately large arms and legs since childhood (the result of radiation exposure to his father). Then he was forced to accept an experimental vaccine, which completely changed his appearance and turned into the Beast.

Despite the frightening appearance, he is an outstanding politician, fighting for the rights of mutants. Features of the Beast lie in its immense power, high intelligence, the ability to regenerate. He possesses surprisingly adroit legs, which successfully replace the mutant hands.

This is an attractive girl, a mutant with the ability to absorb the mental energy when touched by the skin of another person. In doing so, she acquires his skills and memory. In mutants, it can take power and abilities. Even a slight touch of Rogue can lead to shock or loss of consciousness. Longer contact ends with coma or death.

For Rogue, her ability is a curse.

Iceberg (Ice Man)

He is one of the first team of "X-Men," whose characters are most popular. Like many mutants, his fate is sad. He learned about his abilities early, but he hid them from everyone, fearing that his family would turn away from him. When he was exposed, the persecution of the boy was rescued by the X-men. He was offered a course at Xavier School.

The ability of Icebergs lies in the ability to lower body temperature and the environment. He can turn objects into ice by touching, freezing the air around him and creating an ice weapon from him. He himself can turn into ice. If many of the mutants changed their decision, whom to support, then the Iceman never changed his position - he is always on the side of good.

Magneto

It can be conditionally attributed to the "X-Men" team, since he is an old friend of Professor Xavier and at the same time the leader of the opposing group called "Brotherhood of mutants". In those moments when the danger threatens everyone, he unites with the people of X against the common enemy.
