Internal page linking: best schemes

Internal linking is the installation of links within the site that will redirect visitors from one page to another. The use of correct re-linking schemes allows the site to go to the top on a specific key request, and the user is given exactly the page that he needs, and not the one that the search engine chooses. Internal links allow you to evenly distribute the reference weight within the project. For each page of the resource, there is a certain level of authority in the eyes of search engines. By reference weight it is accepted to understand the same authority level of the page that can be transferred to another page-acceptor from the donor page by placing a link to it on the latter page. Reference weight is usually called Pagerank.

Number of links on the page

As a result of continued testing by optimizers of strategies for promoting websites by placing internal links on them, internal page linking has acquired a large number of formats. Regardless of the scheme for redirecting users, there should not be more than 50 links on one page. Weight is distributed by links, both external and internal, evenly. With the increase in their number of Pagerank, each of them decreases. Limiting the number of redirects, the optimizer redistributes the transmitted weight, directing it to the necessary pages. Excess references are recommended to be closed using a tag or attribute "nofollow". Tags and attributes do not convey the reference weight to the acceptor, but they also do not take it from the donor.

Execution and redirection

Internal site linking will be more effective if you try to avoid links with pictures or animations. Text redirects, unlike the latter, are easily recognized by search engines with the definition of redirection. The link is correctly ranked, which can not be said about pictures and animations. On one page only one redirection to another page is allowed. If you take as an example the catalog with the goods, then you need to leave only redirection with the keyword. If the picture with the product is also supplemented with a link, it is recommended to close it with the attribute rel = "nofollow". The "More Details" subscript at the end of almost every product description, or any other similar text, should be closed with a tag that will save the reference weight of the redirect. The URL of the pages is necessarily supplemented by the keywords on the basis of which the key queries are formed. This requires an effective and competent internal site linking.

Making the main menu

Page linking can be carried out not only through the placement of redirection in the text content of the project, but also by placing links in the main menu and in the sub-menu of the site. In order for internal linking to have a positive effect on the promotion of the resource, links to the menu should be made up of keywords or promoted queries. Do not make great efforts to ensure that the project menu is redirected to all available pages. Text links for the menu for internal site linking should be made using a key query or a key query with a surrounding text. It can be generative words. It is allowed to use generic words with part of the key query.

Decoration of the nested menu

The layout of the sub-menu is limited to working with the following structural components of the project:

  • The navigation line. It should contain a redirect to the main page, mainly with a competitive keyword. The current page in the line should not contain links.
  • An HTML map. It should contain links only to the main sections of the project and to the most important pages. The advantage of search engines is a single-level map, with no more than 30 links.
  • Tips that direct project visitors to the right pages. This internal page linking is effective for advancing the project on low-frequency requests. The following text redirects are used: "Related Products", "Related Materials", "Shares" and other inscriptions that attract attention.
  • Anchors. These are text links located on pages with a large amount of text material. Navigation will be more convenient if you use several anchors of the type "

Universal re-linking scheme

The simplest and most accessible internal page linking is carried out according to the universal scheme. Its effectiveness determines the frequency of its application. The essence of the scheme is to concentrate the main reference weight on the main page of the project with a parallel decrease in weight as the level of nesting. Internal linking of this type is suitable for promotion of the project for high-, medium- and low-frequency queries. The principle of constructing a scheme is reduced to the implementation of the basic rules:

  • Each page of the project redirects to the main or to one of the main sections.
  • The main page contains links that lead only to the main sections of the project.
  • Pages can only link to each other within a section.

How to do internal relinking on low-frequency requests?

The re-linking scheme provides for the elimination of bilateral ties. The navigation bar and the navigation menu are closed with a tag. To build a schema on the main page, all links that do not lead to the main sections of the project are closed. On the partition pages only those redirects that lead to tabs with content are indexed. Within each section, all links to enclosed pages are enclosed in a ring. Only those links that lead to other pages in the section remain indexable.

Linking for promotion of the project on high-frequency requests

Correct internal linking on high-frequency requests begins with the formation of a two-way link between the main page and the pages of sections. Links from the page of the section are redirected to the pages of the nested type with the content. From pages with content, a redirect to the main page is made. The maximum weight in accordance with the keyword can be obtained when the links are placed with the corresponding pages. The optimizer should select 8 input pages, which are divided into two categories, 4 pages each. Fours are closed in a ring and are connected among themselves under the scheme: 1 page - 6 pages - 3 pages - 8 pages - 1 page and, accordingly, 5 pages - 2 pages - 7 pages - 4 pages - 5 pages. Regardless of what scheme will be used to promote the project, it must be adapted not only for search engines, it should simplify the movement of the visitor of the project on the site.

Scheme "Star" and the scheme "Ring"

The basis of the scheme is the total and mutual linking of internal pages. The principle of building the latter is to have links on pages to other pages. The scheme is effective for small resources and for business cards projects, since it allows you to evenly distribute the weight between all the pages. To the category of classic linking can be attributed and "ring" redirection. The essence of the technique is that all pages are redirected to each other in a circle, referring in parallel to the main page, in particular to the main page of the project, which is being promoted by the dominant request. The "ring" scheme is easily upgraded for redirecting the main reference mass to a specific page. The total average weight is saved for each of the project pages, even if some of them just drop out of the structure.

"Hierarchical" model and not only

The idea of the scheme is based on the formation of the structure of the re-linking, which by external factors has a certain similarity with the progression. The branch has been repeatedly checked and has shown good results, but it is not without flaws either. When one of the pages from the search engine falls out, the whole project sags in the eyes of the search engines. The structure of redirects in the inner part of the resource assumes the distribution of the main reference weight of the site simultaneously between several pages. In addition to the three most common structures for relinking projects described above, there are schemes of a specialized type adapted for large-scale services, such as video hosting or news resources with numerous pages. The internal linking of wordpress sites, in fact, as well as projects running on other engines, which have no more than 50 pages, can be done manually. Automatic re-linking programs and special scripts are used to relink on low-frequency requests in large-scale projects.

Specialized programs to help the optimizer

Internal relocation schemes can be built in both manual mode and automatically. There are programs that are able to analyze the resource and point to the right directions to improve indexing. Let's pay attention to the following software:

  • Linkoscop. The program has the basic functions of re-linking. This includes checking the quality of incoming and outgoing links, setting up in terms of weight distribution, checking on the main search engines, creating and linking the project map. The program is effective for analyzing competing resources.
  • Pageweight. This is a program for internal linking, showing the main parameters of the distribution of weight within the resource both in the whole for the project, and on its individual pages. If compared with the previous program, the software is aimed at slow collection of source information, which results in external pages and broken links.

Two programs are able to fully meet the optimizer's needs in promoting the project in the domestic virtual market, though the menu for internal linking will have to be created independently. Automated type of relinking is used primarily by professionals who understand the essence of the procedure.

Scripts

The most effective script for many optimizers is HTracer. It is not only completely free of charge, but also works great on the most popular site management systems, in particular Joomla, Drupal and WordPress. Its advantage over analogs is a wide range of functions. In the open spaces of the CIS at the moment there is no worthy analogue to the script. The main drawback is a big load on the server of the project itself. To maintain the optimal response speed when using the script, it is worth buying a hosting plan or a dedicated VPS that will have a performance margin. Optimizing the source code of pages is mandatory.
