Going to the auto parts store, you can get lost in a lot of diverse means to improve the characteristics of the engine. The general name of these products is additives for the engine. They are issued a huge amount for all tastes and wallets, there are also inexpensive, there are worthwhile money.

So, additives in the engine oil are substances remotely reminiscent of grease. Usually, they are poured into the motor in order to improve some parameters or even carry out so-called "internal repair". But other than this type there are others, for example, substances that need to be poured into the gas tank, or into the carburettor of your car.

Restoring (antifrictional) additives

This is the most extensive group. It mainly includes additives to the engine, the task of which is to restore the surface of worn parts during operation.

Promotional materials, abundantly distributed by manufacturers, are full of promises of fabulous changes in the work of the motor. Here you and the protective film on the surfaces, and a significant reduction in friction, due to which you get an increase in engine power by 5-8%. Fill such additives in the engine advertising agents of manufacturing companies recommend every 10 thousand kilometers. Only with such a periodicity of updating additives is guaranteed a continuous protective effect.

But let's proceed from the general words to consider specific examples, let's take an additive called Molykote A Dispersion and try to figure out what it gives the car. As its name implies, it is a dispersion, it consists of a solid dissolved in mineral oil. Molykote A Dispersion is designed to lubricate metal compounds that work at high loads at high speeds. Thus, it is well suited for both an auto engine and for various gearboxes. The manufacturer guarantees that on all rubbing surfaces of parts this means will create a protective film that will protect them from wear and tear, reduce noise and friction, and as a result increase engine power.

Also in the description of this additive in the engine it is said that it does not carry any threats to the motor's operation, since the film of microscopic thickness created by it does not interfere with the normal cohesion of the parts. It is enough to add 3-10% of the dispersion to the volume of oil filled in the system, and it will immediately begin its operation, improving the parameters of the internal combustion engine or reducer. The manufacturer guarantees that this product will work in the motor, even if you replace the oil 4 times, and only for the fifth replacement will need to update Molykote A Dispersion.

Additives that save fuel

As both gasoline and diesel oil grows in price continuously, it becomes natural for all motorists to reduce their accounts at gas stations by any means. Not surprisingly, many additive manufacturers produce products that are advertised as reducing consumption of fuel by 10-20%, and some, especially insolent sellers, promise all 50, or even 80% savings. Naturally, there is no need to talk about 50% - this is simply an unrealistic figure. Experts believe that the maximum benefit from such products varies between 5-10%, which, of course, is also quite a lot.

Take, for example, an additive like Liqui Molly Octane Plus. On the assurances of all the respected brand, which promotes this increasing octane number of gasoline product, Octane Plus is able to improve 92 gasoline by 2-5 units. It is recommended to apply it in those cases when there are justifiable doubts about the quality of the fuel filled into the fuel tank. Octane Plus reduces engine detonation, increases power, but does not harm candles, catalytic converters and the environment.

There are other additives in the engine with a very large list of advantages in promotional brochures, but I would recommend not to get carried away with these promises. Periodic diagnostics and scheduled engine repairs do not replace any additives.
