Toyota Soarer: all the fun about the four generations of the once popular model

Toyota Soarer - this car, produced in the body of the coupe from 1981 to 2005. This car was designed as a replacement for a model such as the Toyota Markll Coupe. First there was the first generation (Z1), and behind it - others, which became more successful. Well, it's worth briefly talking about this model, as well as its advantages and features.

Second, third and fourth generation

So, the subsequent versions of the Toyota Soarer were distinguished by a more elegant, rounded body (unlike the first generation). Strictly speaking, there were no other changes in the Z2 models. But the third generation was remembered with something special. It was on its basis that Lexus SC was developed. This luxury coupe became one of the best that were only produced in Asian countries in the nineties.

In 2001, the fourth generation (the so-called 40 series) also appeared in the world. It was the Toyota Soarer - a convertible coupe. Interestingly, outside of Japan, this car was sold as Lexus SC430. In 2005, the fourth generation was completed.

Technical features of Z1 and Z2

And now I would like to tell you more about all the above models. So, the versions of the first generation were equipped with 6-cylinder engines. Their volume was 3, 2.8 and 2 liters, respectively. The first versions were rear-wheel drive. Machines could boast features such as an on-board computer (even with a touch panel) that controlled climate control, a digital tachometer and a speedometer (with LEDs), and other electronic innovations. In addition, these cars were different suspension of the macpherson. True, only in front - behind were installed diagonal levers.

To choose from, potential buyers were offered either a 5-speed "mechanics" or a 4-speed "automatic". By the way, the first generation Toyota Soarer had an automatic self-diagnosis system.

Subsequent versions (latest generation Z1 and all Z2 cars) boasted ABS, cruise control, driver's leather seat (adjustable in 7 planes), ventilated disc brakes and air suspension.

In the late 80's there were impressive new engines: 1G-GTEU, producing 210 "horses", and 7M-GTEU with a capacity of 240 liters. from.

Features of the new luxury coupe (30 series)

This was the name of the third generation Toyota Soarer. The cars of the 30 series had the richest and most modern equipment among all the Asian cars that were produced at that time. Interestingly, this was the first model with a GPS-navigator installed by the manufacturer. Potential buyers were also available cars versions of twin-turbo with a 5-speed "automatic".

In these models, the same motors and boxes were installed, as on the Toyota Supra. There were engines in volume of 2,5, 3 and 4 liters. The proposed engines were turbocharged, twin-turbocharged, with a pneumatic or active suspension and steering wheel-mounted rear wheels. With these Toyota Soarer models, the specifications were really worthy. Particularly pleased with the version 1JZ-GTE 2.5L Twin Turbo. Especial was this model Toyota Soarer tuning: the front bumper was transformed, the lateral weather-cloth became more effective and the "look" of headlights became more expressive. The sports version could still boast of exquisite finish (natural wood and leather), cruise control and electric seats.

Characteristics of the latest models

The fortieth series (ie, the 4th generation) was constantly compared by critics and car enthusiasts to the "Lexus" of that time. And they did look like characteristics. But what about the exterior? The car could boast of a rigid folding roof (the manufacturers decided to make a claim for similarity to the Mercedes-Benz SL) and a fairly powerful 4.3-liter V8-engine. This unit was special in that it had variable phases of the gas distribution. The engine produced 280 horsepower, and up to a hundred it was accelerated in just 6 seconds.

The exterior, by the way, has changed. Some people did not like it - they said that the slender silhouette that many connoisseurs of Toyot so loved, has sunk into oblivion. It seemed to many that the body became visually heavier and shorter. But in general, the exterior turned out to be original and attractive.

It is interesting that the 40 series and the Lexus models of the time were of the same design. But since Lexus became a more significant brand, in 2005 the Soarer model was discontinued.

However, if you try, you can find these cars on sale. Of course, there are very few of them, especially in Russia, and all of them are second-hand, but still the idea is realistic (if there is a desire and a certain amount). True, the old machines, most likely, will not be found - only the last generation. Cost, by the way, the car will be somewhere 300-700 thousand rubles (depending on the state and configuration).
