The tomato "Lorraine beauty" was bred in the United States. It has no industrial significance and is mainly cultivated by those horticulturists who collect rare and unusual vegetable crops on their personal household plots.

Designed for growing outdoors, this tomato is an American ribbed variety - it also gets a good start in greenhouses. And if in the sheltered shelters the plant begins to bear fruit in July, then on the household plots the first fruits are tied only in August. Tomato "Lorraine beauty" prefers moderate humidity and high temperature.

Main characteristics

This sort of specialists is called midweek. However, the practice of domestic truck farmers proves that the American ribbed tomato rather refers to the average tomatoes, and in cold conditions - the mid-late maturing period.

This variety is indeterminate, not stamping. On average, the height of its bushes reaches up to one hundred and seventy centimeters, although when grown in a greenhouse some specimens reach a mark of two meters. At the same time, the tomato "Lorraine beauty" has a low crop yield.

When growing an open-air culture, this characteristic is directly dependent on the weather. Seeds in fruits contain very little. Tight, not prone to cracking, with flesh dense and sweet, but because of the voids a bit dryish - that's how the breeders characterize these tomatoes.

Growing and care in the open ground

As for the flavoring qualities of the "Lorraine beauty" and the yield of its bushes, as already mentioned, weather factors significantly influence, therefore, in those regions where the climate is mostly cool or unstable, it is better to grow these tomatoes in a greenhouse. On seedlings, seeds are sown about 60 days before the transplantation period of young seedlings into the open ground. As a rule, the last process should be carried out in the second decade of May.

Bushes should be planted in rows, keeping between the individual plants an interval of 40-50 cm. As a rule, this variety is formed into a single stem. The bush should be regularly pamphleted and tied to mesh trellises. For optimal development of the ovaries and to increase the sugar content in the fruit, the lower leaves from plants should be gradually removed.
