The film "The Lord of the Rings. Brotherhood of the Ring: actors, roles, story, reviews

"Lord of the Rings. The Lord of the Rings, The Fellowship of the Ring, is the first part of the literary trilogy of writer JRR Tolkien. About all three parts of the novel, we can say that they are one of the most popular literary masterpieces of our time in the genre of fantasy. The first publication of the novel belongs to 1954-1955. Then the London publishing house Allen & Unwin divided the work into three volumes ("Brotherhood of the Ring", "Two Fortresses," "Return of the King") without agreement with the author. Tolkien was extremely dissatisfied with such arbitrariness on the part of the publishing house. But to achieve the unification of all three parts of the novel in one book, he managed only in 1968. In this edition, the author introduced several major changes.

The creation of the author and before the film adaptation was very popular among fans of this literary genre. The novel is translated into 38 languages. It is known that Tolkien, being an expert in the field of philology, often personally participated in the verification of the quality of translations. The publication in Russian first appeared in 1976, the author of the translation is AA Gruzberg.

Plot: prologue

The plot of the entire trilogy continues the actions that unfolded in the story "The Hobbit." The film "The Lord of the Rings. Brotherhood of the Ring "is the first part of the famous trilogy.

From the prologue we learn about the events preceding the action of the film. Dark Lord Sauron was forged magic rings, which he handed over to the lords of the elves, dwarves and people. But this was just a ruse. For himself, the cunning Sauron forged the Ring of Omnipotence, which is able to subdue all. When the army of elves and people approached his stronghold in Mordor, a terrible battle took place. Then in battle Isildur cuts off the dark ruler's finger along with the ring. Isildur did not possess him for long, because, having ambushed the orcs, he dropped the ring to the bottom of the river. After many centuries, he finds Gollum, who under the influence of this magical decoration turns into a monster. Becoming a "captive" of the ring, Gollum forever locked himself in the caves of the Misty Mountains. It was there that the hobbit Bilbo Baggins picked it up.

When the prologue ends, we find out that Bilbo has not been able to part with the ring, and still keeps it at home, periodically falling under his influence. Mage Gandalf persuades the 111-year-old hobbit to pass the mysterious thing to his nephew, 33-year-old Frodo. Bilbo listens to the persuasion of an old friend and leaves the ring of Frodo, and he leaves his native Shire.

Experienced by experience, Gandalf, guessing about the true intentions of the creator of the ring, finds evidence that this decoration gradually "enslaves" its owner. Then we learn that, without losing hope of finding the ring, Sauron learns from Gollum that the treasured thing is in the possession of a certain Baggins in the Shire. In his quest, the Dark Lord sends the Black Horsemen - Nazgul.

Plot: Frodo and the Ring

Frodo, who did not yet know about the purpose of the ring, begins to feel an irresistible craving to wear it. Not having coped with his desire, he gives the Black Horsemen the opportunity to locate the magic decoration. All this turns out that Frodo is seriously injured in the battle with the Nazgul. And only thanks to the elves who healed his wound, he remains alive.

The council, convened in Rivendell, decides to destroy the ill-fated ring. This can only be done in one way: to throw into the infernal flame of the Rock of Death in Mordor. This difficult mission falls on the shoulders of the brave Frodo. On a long journey, he is accompanied by hobbit friends, elf Legolas, magician Gandalf, dwarf Gimli, as well as people Boromir and Aragorn. This detachment also forms the so-called Brotherhood of the Ring.

Next, the heroes meet on their way a lot of obstacles committed by Sauron. It is not enough to tell about them. They need to be seen. All the depth of character characters, the dynamics of events, the brightness of key moments are perfectly conveyed by the creators of the film "The Lord of the Rings. Brotherhood of the Ring "In the roles of actors with amazing accuracy embodied the images of their heroes, demonstrating a talented realistic game.

On the way to the film ...

United Artists bought back the rights to the film in the distant 1968, paying for them 104 000 pounds sterling. There were rumors that the main characters of the novel will be played by members of the cult four of The Beatles. They even talked about their preferences, with respect to the characters: Lennon dreamed of playing Gollum, Paul McCartney - Frodo, Ringo Starr - Sam, and George Harrison wanted to reincarnate in Gandalf himself. The film was directed by Stanley Kubrick. He, then, later said that the novel can not be screened. The ideas of "Beatles" were not destined to come true. The company, having failed to fulfill its obligations to film the film, was forced to return the rights to the owner.

Further, the director of John Burman and producer Saul Zaentsom created a script for the film, but for unknown reasons they did not start filming.

Only a few years later, in 1976, the right to buy from the descendants of Tolkien the same Saul Zaenz, who devoted a lot of time to the study of the novel, apparently realized that in the future it can be well enriched. Producer paid at the same time no less than $ 15 million. To this day Zaentsz owns the rights. And I must say, it has already paid back its expenses for a long time.

The process of creating the film "The Lord of the Rings. The Fellowship of the Ring"

This film came out on big screens on December 19, 2001, becoming the first part of the film trilogy, directed by Peter Jackson. The painting received four Oscars, as well as 68 other awards in the field of the film industry. The filming of the first part of the trilogy lasted almost a year and a half, and then another year left for the post-production process

When Peter Jackson began work on the film "The Lord of the Rings. Brotherhood of the Ring ", the actors planned very different. For example, he proposed the role of Gandalf to Sean Connery. But the ex-James Bond was followed by a refusal. The actor, firstly, did not like the length of the shooting process, and secondly, according to Connery himself, he did not understand the script.

In the course of painstaking work, the filmmakers made many different notes and notes in Tolkien's books, literally "decorating" and even tearing out pages from them. According to one of the authors, while the script was being created, 27 pieces of the novel "suffered".

Thanks to the film, the economy of New Zealand has become richer for two hundred million dollars. During the filming process, the New Zealand government even established the post of minister for affairs of the "Lord of the Rings", which solved all emerging economic issues.

Noteworthy is the fact that the actors of the film "The Lord of the Rings. Brotherhood of the Ring ", which played key roles before the film was not so popular. This was the idea of the director: to take in the work of little-known artists. Having been rejected by some filmmakers, whom he originally planned for the role, he radically changed the approach to team selection. And I was not mistaken: in many respects thanks to the color of the cast, the film turned out so bright. After the shooting, most of the artists gained world popularity and received many successful proposals. In general, the number of the crew was almost 3,000 people.

Most viewers admire the picture after watching. But it is worth noting that in addition to the fans of this film there are people who consider it ambiguous, incomprehensible and contradictory. Analyzing negative reviews about the film "The Lord of the Rings. Brotherhood of the Ring ", one can say that those who did not like the film explain this by the overload of the plot, which makes it difficult to trace the events, as well as excessive fantasy and too long duration.

Director Peter Jackson: brief biography

The future director was born and grew up in a small town. Life there was calm and measured. For the first time having picked up a camera that his father gave him, Peter realized that his future life would be inextricably linked with the cinema. First he took pictures of nature, studied the possibilities of special effects, some of which he invented experimentally himself. Understanding the basics of directing, P. Jackson began to take an active part in various festivals and competitions. His debut film in the arena of world cinema was the picture "In Bad Taste." I must say that, given the very modest budget of this film, it can be safely called successful, because in 1987, it was in Cannes, 12 countries acquired the right to display it, and in 1990 the picture won a spectator prize at the festival of fantastic cinema, which took place in Rome.

His next directorial work was also successful. This is the "Living Dead", and "Heavenly Creatures." But certainly, the peak of his popularity is the time when three films "Lord of the Rings" came out year after year. "Brotherhood of the Ring", whose actors and after more than 10 years maintain friendly relations, have not forgotten their director. The whole company periodically gets together and has fun.

In 2005, the world-famous director decided to show the viewer his vision of the history of King Kong. And here Peter was waiting for success. The audience took the picture "with a bang!".

Being one of the most honored theatrical figures of our time, Ian McKelen did not play films very often. However, playing one of the key roles in the film "The Lord of the Rings. And now, although he admits that he became truly popular after playing the role of the gloomy but fair Gimli, he believes that there are more significant works in his film career.
