Still life in pencil in stages: advice for a beginner artist

What is this concept of "still life" for a beginner, of course, an artist? What does it include? And how to draw a still life with a pencil yourself?

What exactly are we portraying?

First of all, perhaps you imagine a vase of flowers or fruit, a jug of milk or vegetables, cups, dried bream. In general, this word literally translates "dead nature". And the still life itself can contain different (inanimate objects) in quantity from two or more, which lie on any surface. More often - fruits and flowers, sometimes - vegetables and cooking utensils. It is also accepted to draw glasses or vases. How can we depict the still life in pencil step by step? The simplest method

We will paint a fruit and flower still life with a pencil (for beginners). Naturally, experienced artists can (and should, probably) write in a different way. And we'll start with the basics!

Geometry is our everything

Step 1 . First of all you need to imagine any object in the form of the simplest form. Connect your imagination. What is most like a vase? That's right, on the cylinder. Basket - parallelogram, apple - circle, pear - oval, and so on by the same principle! Their symmetry affects flowers, and petals, and leaves. By the way, for this, it may be useful to preview the pictures of the Cubists. This is where the geometry of the universe opens before us in its entirety! It is also very important to place the items correctly on a sheet of paper. They should not "roll off" the table, but lie or stand flat. So, our sketch is more like geometric figures.

Step 2 . Next, bend a little of the line, to get the desired shape of objects. For example, add a pen to the basket with fruit or to a vase of flowers. We make the lines smoother, soft, without sharp angles.

Step 3 . We continue to draw a still life in pencil in stages. Circles and ovals indicate fruit. They can overlap each other. Therefore, our circles will not be very even.

Step 4 . Denote the flowers, their centers, and also the petals. Gradually add leaves.

It seems to many that the basics of graphics are line and shading. And only with their help artists distribute dark and light colors. It is especially useful in cases where it is required to obtain pale, rather thin lines, softly turning into darker colors. Here, creativity requires smooth paper, which facilitates the process of erasing coal lines.
