Sealing of gypsum board joints

Virtually no repairs can not do without the use of plasterboard. They are closing up slopes, sewing pipes in the kitchen and in the bathroom, leveling uneven walls and ceilings, from it construct ceilings of various designs. Despite its multifunctionality, drywall has one big drawback: often at its joints, cracks are formed. In fact, this defect refers more to poorly executed work, rather than to the building material itself. One of the most important moments when using this material is the sealing of gypsum board seams. It is necessary to use special putty mixes, intended for this purpose.

The putty of drywall with some mixtures provides for the application of a paint reinforcing mesh, in the common people called "serpian". Such a tape will not allow the seams to strongly deform. Despite the fact that many manufacturers guarantee high quality in such works as sealing gypsum cardboard joints without the use of reinforcing mesh, most experts still recommend using it with all kinds of putty. At the seams made without a mesh, cracks are often formed, spoiling the appearance of walls and ceilings, which leads to the need for re-finishing.

How is the sealing of gypsum board joints carried out according to all the rules? To carry out this type of work, it is necessary to prepare:

- special painting tapes (perforated paper, plain paper, building bandage, reinforced tape).

- a special filler for sealing gypsum board joints;

- several spatulas of different sizes;

- a bucket for diluting the putty mixture.

How does the sealing of the gypsum board seams occur and in what order? The scheme of work is as follows:

1. Joints drywall must necessarily be primed.

2. The seams are glued with reinforced tape (sickle).

3. A solution of starting putty is prepared (its consistency should resemble a toothpaste in kind).

4. Puttying plasterboard on the grid is done with a spatula of different widths. The seams should be as neat and not too thick.

Produced in this way, the work will not allow the seams to crack and retain a beautiful view of the walls and ceiling.

Some specialists use other methods, in which sealing of cardboard seams is performed in a different sequence:

1. The surface of gypsum boards is thoroughly cleaned from dust and dirt.

2. Milled and slightly beveled edges are wetted with water.

3. Prepared spackling solution is applied to the seams and distributed across the line of joints of the plates. The mortar should be pressed as deep as possible into the joint. The puttying solution must completely fill them.

4. The mortar moves the mortar along the joints.

5. Apply the reinforcing tape to the applied solution with a spatula, which is strongly pressed into it. During this operation, all air bubbles remaining inside should be carefully squeezed out. The surface of the tape is covered with a very thin layer of puttying solution. After it dries, the excess is gently removed.

6. Apply the next layer of the solution - wider than the previous one by 4-5 cm. Smooth it and wait for drying.

7. The third layer of the solution is applied even wider than the previous one (by 4-5 cm) and aligned along the plane of the plates. The dried last layer is ground with sandpaper with the smallest grains.

Treated in this way, the walls and ceilings are finished with finishing putty, sanded, painted or wallpapered. If cracks appear on already finished walls, you will need to clean the plasterboard 2-3 cm from the joints, patch the seams, glue the paint tape, putty joints, fill in the seams and paint them again.
