Progesterone deficiency: symptoms and treatment

Progesterone is an important hormone of the female body, which is produced by the ovaries and is responsible for the regularity of the menstrual cycle, as well as for successful fertilization. It is often called the pregnancy hormone, as it relaxes the muscles of the uterus, preventing their premature contraction. At the same time, an increase in his level does not cause fears for doctors. The lack of progesterone, the treatment of which should be carried out immediately, can lead to the termination of pregnancy and the loss of the child.

Causes of low levels of progesterone

Lack of this hormone is observed in violations of the function of the yellow body, hormonal failure after abortion, with the development of infectious and inflammatory diseases of female genital organs, with renal failure or uterine bleeding, as well as in the presence of oncopathologies and during the reception of individual drugs. Adverse factors include emotional stress, physical overstrain, smoking and alcohol abuse, poor nutrition and negative environmental effects.

In addition, when there is a lack of progesterone, the symptoms of this disorder can include hair loss, the appearance of acne and spotting discharge. The length of the menstrual cycle is often shortened . In patients with a low level of progesterone, uterine fibroids and ovarian cysts can occur. Excessive irritability and a bad mood become quite frequent manifestations. When there is a lack of progesterone, the symptoms of this hormonal imbalance are most pronounced in the premenstrual period. Women have painful periods, the allocation is massive. When a deficiency of progesterone is diagnosed, the symptoms and their intensity in different women may differ, so treatment can be prescribed only by a qualified doctor.

Treatment of progesterone insufficiency

Drug therapy is carried out after a clear definition of the level of progesterone in the blood. If necessary, appoint "Utrozhestan", "Dufaston" or other progestins, the dose of which is determined individually. To correct the level of progesterone you need to eat right. It is recommended to consume more poultry meat, legumes, fatty varieties of cheese, milk and eggs. When a woman has a deficiency of progesterone, the symptoms and disturbances that arise, can be corrected with the help of folk methods of treatment. Apply infusions and decoctions of plants that have a progestogenic effect (psyllium seeds, cuff grass, fetus fruits, raspberry leaves). To achieve a better result, they should be taken in the second half of the menstrual cycle. It should be remembered that one should not self-medicate, since only a doctor is able to clearly identify the etiology of hormonal imbalance and prescribe effective therapy.
