The Golden Gate in Vladimir. Beautiful sights of the city

The gorgeous and majestic city of Vladimir can rightfully be considered the pearl of the vast Russia. It has many attractions. These are the unique Golden Gate, Vladimir-Suzdal Reserve, Dmitrovsky and Uspensky Cathedrals. Every traveler, coming here, must certainly visit these unique places.

Vladimir's Golden Gate is a real business card of the city. They were built in 1164 during the reign of Andrew Bogolyubsky. At that time, five gates led to the city, which were well guarded. It was a kind of defensive strategy. Significantly, in 1238 Vladimir for a long time restrained the onslaught of the Tatar-Mongol hordes. Enemies broke into the city limits, but not through the gates, but through a breach in the city wall.

To date, from the former defensive complex, there is virtually nothing left. Only the Golden Gate is standing. In Vladimir, everyone knows this magnificent structure. It is also known far beyond the city limits. This is the most beautiful gate in Russia.

In the Middle Ages, they were covered with plates of gilded copper and shone, amazed by the splendor of the guests of the city. Vladimir was the recognized capital of North-Eastern Russia. Among the other five gates, the Golden Gate was the entrance to the richest princely part of the city. Through them came to Vladimir foreign ambassadors and famous guests who wanted to bow to the Grand Duke. And the prince's squad with victory or defeat always passed through these gates.

To this day, the Golden Gate has come strongly modified. Unfortunately, fires and frequent raids by enemies and subsequent restoration work have fundamentally changed their architecture. The Golden Gate in Vladimir wanted to start rebuilding from the end of the 19th century.

Now there is a historical exposition in the church above the Golden Gate. The guests are attracted by a diorama, recreating the sad events of 1238, when Vladimir was attacked by the troops of Khan Baty. Here you can see medieval weapons and equipment.

The gate in the architectural plan is a tall slender tower, pierced through through a 14-meter arch with a lintel of arches in the middle. Under this jumper the doors were mounted. Above the gate is a temple, to which you can climb the preserved staircase. The Golden Gate in Vladimir is three in one: the battle tower, the church, and the triumphal arch.

Now the balcony-passage around the church has transformed into an unusual closed gallery. The Golden Gate in Vladimir is considered a monument of architecture and history, which is listed in the UNESCO heritage list.

Visit Vladimir - a city whose sights will not leave indifferent its guests. Not inferior to the popularity of the Golden Gate Trinity Church. Local residents call it the "Red Church". It was built as a gift for the 300th anniversary of the Romanovs' house with the money of the Old Believers. The temple has a phenomenal acoustic.

Dmitrievsky Cathedral - the second most important sight of Vladimir after the Golden Gate. This is a grandiose court temple, built under Vsevolod a large Nest. The unique cathedral is known for its stone carvings. On all sides it is surrounded by 600 bas-reliefs with numerous images of Russian saints, historical scenes, real and mythical animals.

The temple of the Catholic saint Rosary is interesting. During the years of Soviet persecution, the shrine was closed to the church, and the high bell tower was used as a repeater. In the seventies of the last century there was an exhibition hall. And only recently, in 1992, the temple was re-consecrated.
