Prepare a cake of mastic

Mastic is a sugar paste, which is decorated with confectionery. In our case, this will be a mastic cake .

There are several species of mastic, so each of them is mixed in its own way. The simplest kind is a marshmallow, like the lollies "Bon Paris". To make marshmallow, you will need candy and small powdered sugar, which will be mixed with a warmed candy mass

When we finish cooking, we get a homogeneous and elastic paste. If it is still sticky, add more powder, until the desired result is obtained. And if the marshmallow becomes too dense, lightly warm it up and thoroughly mash it. Roll out layers in two ways: on the table, so as not to stick to the mass, it needs to pour the powdered sugar, and between the sheets of oiled polyethylene. The downside of the first way of rolling the mastic is that it will be difficult to remove a mass from the table. Therefore, it is best to choose the second method.

Roll out the mastic, remember: do not make it too thin or thick. The thickness of the mastic should not exceed 2.5 mm. And more importantly, as mentioned above, you should use powder only finely ground. If you used a large powder, there is a high probability that the layer will break.

So, to cover the cake, the mastic should be carefully rolled out, the size of which depends on the cake and the margin along its edges is not less than 4 cm. Then you can use a round knife for pizza and cut off excess. Then the cake will be beautiful.

The main ingredients that make up our cake are mastic, biscuit or cake. Under the coating you can use boiled condensed milk. Any mastic when in contact with moisture easily dissolves, so remember: do not use liquid impregnation. For example: rum, syrup.

To decorate cakes from mastic, confectioners paint layers. Of course, it is better to use food colors, but it is very difficult to find them. Therefore, you can replace them with the paint that you use for Easter eggs. There are many such colors, but it is worth giving preference to paint in tablets. Because they do not contain salt. Also, if you are against chemical paint, you can use natural products to get those or other shades. Green paint can be obtained from spinach, red from beet, orange from carrot juice. If you want to get a black paint, you need to mix a few colors: blue, yellow and red. Of course, there are no guarantees that it will turn out to be black. Also, you can first get a brown paint from chocolate, and then add a drop of blue paint.

You can store cakes from mastic for a long time. There are no perishable products in its composition. In order for it to become rigid, you need to put it in a bag or in a special container. You can not even clean it in the refrigerator. In the freezer, the mastic can be stored for about two months.

A cake of mastic can be decorated. For example, give the mastic shine. This can be done if you take honey and vodka (1: 1). Get a honey - vodka solution, which must be applied with a brush of soft fibers. If you are afraid that vodka will give your mastic, some unnecessary shade, do not be afraid. The vodka will quickly evaporate, leaving no trace. Thanks to this, your mastic cake will turn out to be original. You can also decorate with figures prepared from mastic. The figures are prepared from the already prepared elastic mastic. It is not difficult, it can be molded from it just like from heated plasticine.

To make the various pieces of figurines come together and stick them on the mastic cake, you need just water. Dampen the place where you want it to be an ornament and glue it. It's simple. If you want your decorations to be multicolored, do not use multi-colored mastics. You can just make the figures from the white marshmallow, and then, when they dry up, paint them. It is better to use natural dyes.

A cake made of mastic is easy, and most importantly, interesting. Especially if you are preparing it with the children. Good luck in cooking.
