Mosaic for the pool

Mosaic is a finishing material, which is a small fragment. They can be made of glass or ceramic tiles. The first material is given the greatest preference. The fact is that the ceramics are covered with decorative glaze on top, which in time can collapse. With constant contact with water, the damaged tiles begin to accumulate moisture inside them and lose waterproof properties.

Glass mosaic for the pool does not lose its water-repellent qualities even when defects appear on its surface during laying or after a long operation. The material is characterized by high strength and low water absorption coefficient. It's easy to work with, and in case of damage to individual parts, it's easy to replace them without breaking the entire composition. In addition, glass mosaic is frost-hardy, which is an indisputable advantage for pools located in an open area or in a summer pavilion.

When purchasing a mosaic, it is recommended to take the material with a small margin. In the process of working on glass parts, cracks or chips may form. Such elements should be replaced immediately, so as not to return to restoration in the future.

Glue for the lining of the pool

When the mosaic for the pool is purchased, you need to take care of buying glue. This issue should be approached responsibly, since the adhesive base depends on the strength of the finish, and therefore the quality of the entire structure.

Mixes for laying the mosaic are sold in the same shops where you bought the finishing materials themselves. The main quality, which must have glue, is moisture resistance. Otherwise, under the influence of water, the lining will begin to lag. Today, there are special mixtures that allow you to do without the use of grout. They are white and look aesthetically pleasing, filling the seams.

Well, with a choice of glue figured out. Now we need to find out how to work with it and on what surface it can be applied.

Surface preparation

Laying the mosaic in the pool should be carried out on a flat surface, cleaned of dust and dirt. Primer is used for leveling. If the bowl of the pool is covered with a cracked layer of paint, it is necessary to remove it if possible.

Primer should be diluted in a container of water and immediately proceed to the treatment of the walls and the bottom of the pool. Apply the mixture with a wide spatula. It is recommended to use plumb bows to make the surface smooth. It is better to start from a corner and gradually move along the wall. When the bowl is primed, the solution should be allowed to dry well during the day. After that, you can go on applying glue and facing.

We spread the glue with water in accordance with the instructions printed on the package. The mixture must be mixed thoroughly, so that all the lumps disappear. It should be homogeneous in composition. The consistency of the solution can be changed during the laying of the mosaic, if suddenly it turns out to be too liquid or, conversely, thick.

It is recommended to start the facing from the top of the wall. To make the seams smooth, you can make a vertical marking on the surface. The adhesive should be applied to a width of not more than three mosaic blocks. After that, the mortar should be leveled with a trowel with serrated edges to create a relief and attach a sheet of material. Glue the pieces of the mosaic at a short distance from each other. The seam should be the same everywhere.

The pool is decorated with mosaic in two directions: several blocks away from the corner and down to the very bottom. It is better to immediately remove adhesive with a spatula, without waiting for it to dry. After finishing the walls of the pool, you can proceed to the lining of the bottom. It is executed similarly.

How to cut a mosaic

When you reach the corner of the wall, you will inevitably encounter the need to cut the mosaic. To do this with high accuracy, you need to know the size of the required fragments. To do this, you can use a ruler or a tape measure. Further on the tiles should be placed labels on which already there will be a cutting.

Tile mosaic for the pool is cut with a special device. Do not try to break it with pliers, because as a result, most likely, you will get uneven edges. Work better tile cutter or glass cutter clearly on the drawn line. Some stick to the surface of the adhesive tape material, so that the edges do not break off. The cut fragments are glued to the walls in exactly the same way as the whole.

Perform work on cutting mosaic is recommended in gloves. In the process of cutting, a small glass crumb is formed, so the hands should be thoroughly washed afterwards. The workplace should also be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner or a damp cloth.

Than to wipe seams

To make the pool mosaic look aesthetically pleasing, the seams should be rubbed. This is done with the help of a special compound. First of all, you need to prepare the necessary adaptations. We will need: the grout itself, the solution dilution tank, the rubber spatula and the rag to immediately remove excess mix.

As a grout you can use glue. The main thing is that it is waterproof and airtight, and also frost-resistant. Usually the grout is selected according to the color of the mosaic. The width of the seam is also important. If it does not exceed 4 mm, a fine-grained mixture should be used, and if the seam is larger, coarse-grained.

Remember that you can mosaic the mosaic only after the solution has completely dried out, on which it is laid!

Grout of a mosaic

Facing the mosaic pool is coming to an end. It remains only to make the grout. To begin with, you should carefully inspect the entire surface and clean it from the glue that comes out. From the gaps between the tiles, the dried mixture should be removed. After this, the mosaic must be wiped with a damp cloth from dust and dirt. Take care that moisture does not stay in the seams.

Now we begin to apply the diluted grout. This is done with a rubber spatula on a small area of the surface. Rub the grout into the unfilled seams on the diagonal of the tiles - first to the right, and then to the left.

It is recommended to clean the excess grout after 10-20 minutes with a damp abrasive sponge. If you leave them for a long time, the solution will harden and it will be difficult to remove it. When the grout dries, the remaining dust can be wiped off with a dry rag.

Remember that between drying the mixture and filling the pool must pass at least 20 days.

This is how the mosaic for swimming pools fits. This process is lengthy and requires accuracy. If there is a desire and opportunity, you can manage this work yourself. The main thing is not to rush and do everything carefully, so that the result can be enjoyed for many years.
