Long loads of pages in the browser: all possible reasons and solutions

How long are the pages loaded in the browser? Do not rush to sin on the slow Internet, because in 90% of cases the problem is on the user side. If you also encounter this, it's worth spending 1 hour of your time to find out what's the reason, and to increase the speed of downloading sites. Let's get started.

Reason # 1: crowded cache

Surely everyone was faced with when a newly installed browser "flies", but after a few weeks starts to buggy and hang, everything is slowly loaded and it's almost impossible to work. Why is this happening?

When you use the Internet, all the information about the sites that you visited, and your actions is preserved. Over time, data takes up more and more space and slows down the browser.

Decision

Clear all temporary files - cache, archive of visited sites and downloads, as well as cookies. The history can be opened through the control panel or by pressing the key combination Ctrl + H (History). Click "Clear history", select the options you want and confirm the action.

Reason # 2: extensions and toolbars

Another option, why the pages are loaded for a long time - a large number of additional applications and toolbars built into the browser. In practice, almost no one uses them, that is, these additions simply take up space and consume traffic.

Decision

Go to the Extensions menu and delete everything except the one you need. First of all, you need to get rid of everything that ends with -toolbar, -bar, etc. We recommend leaving AdBlock - the blocker of obtrusive advertising.

The same situation with plug-ins. To see them, type about: plugins in the address bar or "browser name: plugins" (for example, opera: plugins). What should I leave?

  • Native Client;
  • Adobe Flash Player;
  • Google Update;
  • Java;
  • Shockwave Flash;
  • QuickTime and VLC Web Plugin, if you watch videos on different sites;
  • Adobe Acrobat and Chrome PDF Viewer, if you frequently view PDF documents in the browser.

All the rest is deleted or disabled, after which it is necessary to restart the program.

Note: in some browsers (in particular, this is the sin of "Opera") in the list the same plugin can occur several times. In this case, leave only the latest version.

Reason # 3: lack of space on the system drive

It is extremely important that the C drive always has at least 10% of free space, and ideally - several gigabytes. If it is full, the computer inevitably begins to "hang". Often, the browser is slowly loaded for this reason, the system simply does not have enough space to process all temporary files and operations.

Decision

If the hard disk is divided into sectors, transfer some of the information from drive C to another, for example D. Many places can be occupied by photos, music, video and various documents, so it's worth starting with them.

If there are no free disks, uninstall programs and files that you do not use. Alternatively, some documents can be transferred to a cloud storage (for example, Google Drive or "Yandex.Disk") or sent to a USB flash drive.

Reason # 4: antivirus checks pages for a long time

Modern programs scan the sites that you visit in "live" mode. That is, first the antivirus analyzes the page that you want to open, and only if everything is in order, gives permission to continue downloading and displaying information.

Decision

If pages are loaded in the browser for a long time, it's worth trying to disable protection for a while. Sometimes it helps. In this case, you will most likely have to set a lower level of protection in the settings or choose another antivirus.

Reason # 5: background applications

Most users do not even pay attention to what programs and services are running in the background. However, they can handle a significant part of the traffic. One of the most powerful "vampires" - all your favorite torrent clients (as soon as you downloaded the file, it starts to be heard from your computer, which can seriously reduce the speed of the Internet).

Decision

Go to "Task Manager"> "Startup" and look at the list of applications that automatically start when you turn on the PC. It is advisable to disable everything except the system programs responsible for the operation of the speakers, touchpad, etc.

Reason # 6: high load on the hard disk

A fairly common cause of slow browser performance. The fact is that the information is written to the hard drive unevenly, that is, the beginning of a file can be at the edge of the disk, another part - somewhere in the middle, and the end - not far from the beginning. This is called fragmentation. What is it dangerous? Instead of quietly sliding, the head constantly "jumps" from side to side. In addition, your disk performs several times more speed, slowing down the entire system.

Decision

Defragment (forced ordering of the physical location of information on the hard drive). To do this, go to "Start"> "Accessories"> "System Tools"> "Disk Defragmenter". Run the program and wait until the information is overwritten. As a result, not only the browser will start to work faster, but the computer as a whole will also start working.

Reason # 7: Browser settings

Some modern browsers have built-in options that, on the one hand, make networking work more comfortable, and on the other, lead to the fact that you have a long load of pages in the browser. A vivid example is the prediction of network activities in Google Chrome.

Decision

Open the browser settings and turn off similar functions. For example, the prediction of actions is in the "Advanced Settings" tab on the "Privacy" tab. If the problem persists, it is recommended to reactivate all functions again.

Reason # 8: viruses

If the Internet is loaded for a long time, banal viruses can be the cause - malicious programs that somehow got on your computer.

Decision

Scan the system for virus and spyware. It is best to use several programs - a common anti-virus (Kaspersky Anti- Virus, AVAST, AVG, McAffee, etc.), as well as special scanner applications. The most popular are Dr.Web, Malwarebytes, HitmanPro and SpyHunter.

Tip: it's best to test in safe mode Windows (with support for network drivers). To do this, when you start the computer, immediately press the F8 key and select the appropriate option. After the scan is completed and the infected files are deleted, you must restart the PC again to return to normal mode.

Reason # 8: obsolete equipment

What if the browser is still loading slowly? If no attempts to "stir" him are not successful, most likely, you just have a weak computer. With each year, sites use increasingly sophisticated technologies, with which the outdated technology copes with labor.

Decision

Of course, ideally, it is worth at least partially upgrade the equipment, for example, to buy more powerful memory. However, this is not always the case. In this case, you can try to install an older version of the browser, as a rule, they consume less resources (for example, Opera 10 "eats" 1.5 times more RAM than Opera 9). However, it is necessary to reconcile that some sites are displayed incorrectly.

Useful programs

Finally, let's talk about several applications that will help to understand why pages are loaded in the browser for a long time, and to solve the problem.

  1. Speedtest.net. Online service for analyzing the speed of an Internet connection - you just need to click the "Start Check" button. If the connection speed is low and does not match your agreement with the provider, you need to understand the company that provides access.
  2. CCleaner. The most popular program for cleaning garbage on a PC. The application automatically solves problems in the system, removes temporary files and memory dumps and fixes errors in the registry. Here you can also select programs for autoloading.
  3. Active Speed. A special program designed to speed up the browser. Allows you to quickly clear history and cache, learn the speed of the Internet and optimize the Internet connection. In the settings there are many useful functions and "chips". For example, there are additional opportunities for improving the work of online applications (useful if the game is loaded for a long time).

For stable and fast operation of the browser it is extremely important to regularly clean the program and the PC. It is recommended to clean the history and cache, as well as defragment to automatic mode (the optimal frequency is 1 time per week).
