How to Make the Filling Floor with Your Hands

As you know, the renovation of the apartment starts from the floor, and you decide to succumb to the fashionable influence and make liquid floors in your dwelling . The floor can be made with your own hands not only in the apartment, but also in the garage, on the sports ground and at the dacha as paths. Such cement-based floors are convenient for use in such places in that they are harmless, since they do not contain toxic additives.

Primer.

All initial work on priming, leveling the surface and filling the pores should be carried out on clean and dry surfaces. The procedure should be repeated several times if necessary. The substrate must be primed before making the filler floor, until a gloss appears on the surface. Only then can we ensure a qualitative result. Primer is applied by brush, roller, rubber mop or spray. In one pass, with a single-layer primer coating, 100-200 grams per square meter is used. Meter surface. It is possible that the procedure will have to be repeated to achieve the desired result.

If the primer changes color (it will whiten) during work, will foam or give any other side effects, then it is necessary to stop the work and determine the cause. This is most often due to too high humidity. The remaining materials are recommended to be applied to the primer at room temperature in 4-6 hours, but not later than 24 hours.

Preparation of the solution.

When you make a self-leveling floor with your own hands, you need to know that excess water when preparing the mixture will reduce the strength of the coating. At the same time, a lack of water will reduce the spreadability of the coating. Therefore, carefully read the instructions on the package. If you can not determine the quality of the prepared mixture, you can check its fluidity in the following way.

Take the cap of the can of aerosol, for example, hairspray and cut off the bottom. The diameter of the lid is about 5 cm, and the height is 4.5 cm, put the lid on a smooth glass surface and fill to the top with the prepared solution. When you lift the cap, the mixture will spread over the surface. If the diameter of the resulting spot is 16-18 cm, then you can safely fill the floor with your own hands. If the spot diameter is less, add water, and if more, add a dry mixture.

When preparing the solution, you need to fill the dry mixture with water, and not vice versa, otherwise you will not be able to stir the lumps. The spreading test can be performed several times until you select the necessary proportions of water and mixture. The finished solution retains its fluidity for approximately 40 minutes. If after this time it began to thicken, you can not in any case dilute it with water.

Operating procedure.

The filling of the floor is done in such a way that the next portion is poured next to the previous one, taking into account that the thickness of the layer should not be less than 5 cm in the thinnest place. When performing work every 40 minutes (the period of retention of fluidity) it is desirable to treat the exposed surface with a roller with long spikes. If this is not, then you can make it a thin and very tough brush. This treatment promotes the escape of excess air bubbles, and you will get a smoother and harder surface.

By making the bulk floor with your own hands, it is advisable to take a helper to perform the preparation of the mixture and its pouring simultaneously. It is best after covering the floor to cover it for two days with plastic wrap or foil. This will give the surface extra strength. Flooring of the final coating on the finished floor can only be done after it has completely dried. The drying time can vary from one to three weeks, depending on the conditions and thickness of the layer. After finishing all work, always wash the tool with water so that the solution does not freeze on its surface.
