"Don's stories" (short summary) Sholokhov. "Foal"

The beginning of the twentieth century was marked by terrible events for Russia, which violated the music of the people's life. In particular, the civil war that began in 1918 led to a clash of people living in the same village in the same family, which left its imprint on society and on the artistic creativity of writers. Most of them repeatedly raised the problems of violence and humanism. The way the topic of the terrible war for the people was revealed can be traced by reading a short summary of Sholokhov's story "Foal".

The birth of a new life

In the midst of the civil war, the horse-maker Trofim encounters a surprise for the entire squadron: his mare has gone to bed. Foal, not suspecting how inappropriately he was born, for the first time looked around the world around him, sensing both the horror of what he saw and the inescapable sweetness emanating from the maternal affection. The horse itself lay beside the dung heap, thin, emaciated, but with genuine joy and pride in his eyes. It was this picture that Trofim saw before him, coming to the stables. And froze in confusion, because nothing else but how to get rid of the foal, it was not possible in this troubled time. This is the beginning of the story. Let's consider its brief content.

Sholokhov's foal and his fate worried no less than Trofim. The latter awaited a long conversation with the squadron commander, the result of which was a firm decision to kill the sucker immediately. Otherwise, on the eve of the offensive against the White Guards, it will become a serious obstacle, and the mare will not yield to the orders of the master. Trofim was aware of the whole burden of the situation, but his hand on a small and innocent animal did not rise. The squadron went into position and allowed to leave everything as it is, arguing that "... and the commander of the tit was sucking, and we sucked, since the custom is such, well, the coven." So the foal remained in the detachment.

Sholokhov, summary of the episode of battle

A month later, Trofim's ekadron entered into a battle with the Cossack army. It turned out that the mare absolutely does not obey the instructions of his master, as he primarily tries to protect his cub. In order to get angry, the driver pointed a rifle at him, but the bullets did not cause any harm or death to the descendant of the red mare. After the incident, the commander again spoke with Trofim about the elimination of the colt, since that one only leads to panic in the ranks. However, his hand did not rise to kill. And the coachman pulled with the execution of the order. So one more part of the story ends (you read its brief content) Sholokhov.

"Foal": dangerous crossing

Soon the regiment was forced to cross the Don to escape the White Guards. Trofim entrusted his mare to a platoon, and himself carried saddles in a boat. He never for a moment lost sight of his redhead. Next to it floated "that high throwing out of the water, then plunging so that barely visible nostrils" and her cub. And then the author describes the scene, which made everyone shudder. We give it a brief summary. Sholokhov - the foal made thin, like a thread of cobwebs, and a lingering scream - struck the behavior of the warriors of the warring sides.

The call came slashing Trofim's heart. "I'll kill you!" Was the first thought that flashed through his mind. She forced to grab the rifle and aim at the head of the unhappy sinking animal. Fortunately, the driver missed. Then he resolutely jumped into the water and swam to the colt. At that moment, standing on the shore and seeing all the White Guard officer gave the command: "Do not shoot!" Attacking monstrous efforts, Trofim pulled the colt ashore, where the latter immediately fell under the protection of his red-haired mother.

And Trofim, swaying, stood up. But he did not have time to go two steps, as he felt a hot shot, suddenly piercing his chest. This from the right bank, indifferently clicking the bolt, shot a white officer. Thus ends the story (you read his summary) Sholokhov's "Foal".
