Domestic violence: phases, species, prevention

Domestic violence is a fairly broad topic, which is devoted to hundreds of studies. Most often he is subjected to children and women. According to the research, it is characteristic for those families where the boundaries between the members of such a cell of society are blurred. In most cases, domestic violence means a repetitive cycle of both physical and verbal, spiritual, sexual abuse, whose purpose is to control, instill fear, intimidate.

Domestic violence has characteristics

  • In the event that the episode has already taken place, then with each subsequent time not only the frequency of repetition increases, but also the degree of cruelty.
  • Such behavior on the part of the aggressor alternates with apologies, promises to change.
  • If the victim tries to break the relationship, this leads to an even greater manifestation of cruelty.
  • Violence in the family happens in all social strata, in all categories, regardless of any aspects.

The cycle of violence

Usually the manifestations of cruelty and aggression are very standard. During the first phase, the voltage builds up. Violence has the character of individual insults. At this stage, the woman behaves calmly, trying to defuse the situation. The more tension increases, the worse it will be to balance the situation. The second stage is the uncontrolled output of the voltage that was accumulated during the first. A woman, as a rule, feels the approach of this phase, so depression and fear begin to increase. And the third phase, the so-called "honeymoon". A man becomes kind, loving, can both admit his guilt, and vice versa, blame the woman, as if she brought it to the point of aggression. At this time, it is more difficult for her to leave the abuser.

What is the nature of violence in the family?

Most often it manifests itself as a combination of several types of cruel attitude.

Physical violence

Causing pain (slaps, kicks, strokes), pushing, exposure to risk, threat of weapons. A man can physically prevent an exit from the house, close indoors, leave in dangerous places. He may not even give you medical help and refuse to buy vital supplies.

Sexual violence

A man treats his wife only as a sexual object, makes her undress against her will and commits intercourse with particular cruelty. Sometimes the aggressor may be forced to make love immediately after the beating, sometimes may force to perform or watch acts of a pornographic nature.

Emotional Violence

It consists in constant criticism and resentment, in ignoring her feelings and humiliation in public. A man can manipulate and offend relatives, forbid going to work.

Economic Violence

The man does not allow to dispose of the family budget and have personal funds, dispose of them at their own discretion.

Prevention of domestic violence

Currently, prevention of domestic violence is not yet the object of state policy. However, in some cities of Russia there are separate programs aimed at reducing such crimes, and specialized assistance centers are being established. However, it should be understood that these activities are not enough. Young women who are on the verge of creating a family will in many respects help themselves if they carefully familiarize themselves with such a direction as the psychology of the family. A book, a special seminar, an address to a specialist will help not only avoid many problems, but also create a family in which peace and understanding will reign.
