Correct twisting of the twisted pair

Twisted-pair crimp as per standard, as well as the use of high-quality cable - a pledge of an excellent and trouble-free channel for communication. I should say right away that it's not worth listening to those who claim that the cable for networks can be crimped as you like and that this does not affect the quality of its work. This statement is valid only for a short wire length. And in the case of long cords, the twisting of the twisted pair "computer-to-computer" will lead either to a total failure of work, or there will be huge losses of data packets.

Often a similar problem can be encountered when power is supplied through a twisted pair to a network device using PoE technologies. This happens because the power is capable of causing serious interference to the conductors next door in this cable. Therefore, in order to avoid this, the conductors are twisted by a special step. Thus, they are arranged to each other in a certain way. In order to reduce interference, shielding of conductors is also used. To find out that there are losses in the cable, it is possible only with the help of expensive equipment. Therefore, if you decide to do self-twisting of the twisted pair, use only a high-quality copper cable and crimp only according to the standard.

Here is one example of a problem with data transfer, where the cable was the cause. The twisted pair was crimped using a cable with copper-plated aluminum conductors. With its help, the access point was taken for a distance of 27 meters, which did not work. After installing a new, high-quality work has been restored in full.

Now let's look at the standard methods of crimping the twisted pair. As a rule, there are two generally accepted types of pin-on connectors on the cable.

The first is called direct. It is used when you need to connect your computer or laptop with a router, a network switch or a hub.

The second type is cross crimping. It is also called a crossover. It is used when you need to connect two computers, a switch to a similar switch, and also to connect routers.

In turn, direct crimp is divided into two standards. One is called the EIA / TIA-568A, and the other is labeled EIA / TIA-568B. In general, they are almost identical, except that each uses different color conductors in order to transmit data packets. True, there are rumors that some devices that have ROE power, refuse to work with the cable, which is compressed according to the first standard. Therefore, given the fact that most of the manufacturers are guided by the second standard, I recommend that you use it, so that you never have any problems.

Well, I will say a few words about cross-crimping. It can also be of two kinds. One is used for connections at a rate of one hundred megabits per second, and the second is for a speed of one gigabit per second. We will not dwell on them in detail. Also, you should also know that there is a crimp of the twisted pair of 4 wires. It is used, as a rule, in telephone lines. We will not talk about this either, because this is a topic of a completely different article.
