When the first representative of the Burger King fast food restaurant was opened in 1953, his menu consisted mainly of hamburgers, French fries, soft drinks, milkshakes and desserts. After the network was sold to another owner and renamed in 1954, she began to expand the menu, adding to it different sandwiches. Currently, the "Burger King" calorie dishes are very different, and among the main ingredients, in addition to beef, are offered chicken, fish and vegetarian items, including salads and lean sandwiches. Other extras include a breakfast menu and a variety of drinks.

As the company continued to expand beyond the United States, localized versions of the menu began appearing in restaurants around the world, which corresponded to regional tastes and cultural or religious beliefs.

To increase sales, "Burger King" sometimes introduces a limited temporary offer for individual product groups or offers some brand new positions for long-term or short-term sales.

The company introduced its first breakfast menu, along with a special line of branded sandwiches in 1978. The expanded menu of Burger King was then part of the plan to expand the network and enter the international market, and also to make a successful competition for McDonald`s. This was crowned with success - now the restaurant chain is one of the most popular among those who sell fast food.

The most famous menu item

The most famous product offered in this restaurant is "Vopper". It was first introduced in 1957, and after that his recipe was repeatedly improved. You can often hear that "Vopper" is the main competitor of "Big Mac" from "McDonald's". Similarities do exist, but one can also see differences. So in "Vopper" from "Burger King" the caloric content is higher - 670 Kcal, while the nutritional value of "Big Mac" is 540 Kcal. Moreover, the product from Burger King does not contain cheese. That is, if you add it at the request of the customer, the burger will become even more caloric.

The standard composition of the "Vopper" is a bun with sesame, lettuce, pickles, fresh tomatoes, onions, mayonnaise, ketchup, and, of course, a large beef cutlet. In some countries for its preparation use other sauces, and also offer additional ingredients, including pepper jalapeno and fried bacon. There are also double and triple "Vopper", offering 2 or 3 cutlets, respectively.

All this implies that in "Burger King" the calorie content of dishes is simply huge, especially if you order large portions. For example, if in addition to "Vopper" take additional French fries with sauce and dessert, you get almost daily nutritional rate for an adult.

Are there any lighter products?

But still fast food lovers can find lighter meals in this chain. The owners of the brand take into account the interests of people who follow a healthy diet, therefore, on some menu items, the "Burger King" calorie is reduced. Salad "Caesar", for example, has only 343 kcal when using all the ingredients.

The composition of this salad almost does not depart from the classics - grated parmesan cheese, fresh vegetables, crackers and pieces of roasted chicken fillet with Caesar sauce. However, the presentation of the dish here is noticeably different - sauce, croutons and chicken pieces are served separately, which allows you to vary the size and nutritional content of the portion.

Prepare a salad at home is very simple - you need to dry small pieces of white bread (you can add a small amount of garlic), fry the chicken fillet until crisp and then mix it with fresh vegetables in a separate appetizing dish. The sauce is sold ready, so cooking does not take much time.

If you are embarrassed by the "Burger King" caloric value of this salad, you can change the recipe and make it easier. For example, bake a chicken fillet, and not fry.

What else can be attributed to easy fast food?

The menu of the establishment also offers other dishes with chicken. If we continue to investigate the caloric content of the dishes in "Burger King" - "Caesar Roll" is quite suitable as a relatively healthy snack. Of course, its lightness is imperfect - in one portion contains 390 kcal, but compared to "Vopper", he wins noticeably.

In fact, it is a copy of a similar dish from McDonald's - it includes chicken, lettuce, tomato, grated cheese and Caesar sauce. All this is wrapped in a fresh cake.

Can I prepare it myself?

"Caesar Roll" can be cooked by yourself without much effort. For 6 servings the following ingredients will be needed:

  • 3 cups lettuce ground chopped;
  • 2 glasses of fried chicken fillet, cut into strips;
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese;
  • ½ cup of Caesar sauce;
  • 6 small thin pita breads.

Mix the 3 first ingredients in a large bowl. Add the Caesar sauce into them and mix very carefully. Put in the middle of each of the pita bread 2-3 tablespoons of the mixture, wrap it in rolls. If desired, you can fry the finished roll in a frying pan with a small amount of vegetable oil.

The ready-made dish turns out to taste almost the same as served in the Burger King network. The caloric content of the roll can be reduced if you put a boiled or baked chicken in it instead of roasted.

In addition, the aforementioned mixture of ingredients can be served as a salad. To do this, do not wrap it in pita bread, and sprinkle with croutons. And if you are not one of those who count calories, you can supplement the dish at your discretion - for example, add finely chopped fried bacon.
