All-wheel drive cars - increased comfort or increased consumption?

All-wheel drive cars are, above all, confidence, comfort and ... increased fuel consumption. So it is, you have to pay for everything, and for the conditions of increased cross-country owners are forced to overpay for every kilometer. So is the game worth the candle, especially taking into account the fact that most cars with all-wheel drive one way or another spend most of the time on city roads? And how correctly to act: to save or not to deny yourself of additional comfort? There is an intermediate variant, we have made a rating in which all-wheel drive cars with the least fuel consumption are presented.

"Audi TT"

Coupe / roadster hit our rating thanks to the all-wheel drive system "Audi Quattro". The power of the two-liter turbocharged engine is 211 hp, and the acceleration to the standard one takes about 5.6 seconds. Relative efficiency (a little more than 10 l / 100 km in urban conditions and 7.5 l / 100 km on the highway) is due to the use of a system of layer-by-layer fuel injection.

"Subaru Outback"

The model is equipped with a 4-cylinder engine (2.5 liters), and its fuel consumption indicators - 9.8 / 8 liters per standard 100 km - a good indicator for a car that claims to be an off-roader. In addition, these all-wheel drive cars (prices for "Outback" start from 40 thousand USD) can work on fuel with the usual octane number, which also allows to a certain extent to save.

"BMW 528"

The turbocharged engine "BMW" with four cylinders produces 240 hp, nevertheless the fuel consumption for this power is rather modest - 10.5 / 7.5 liters per 100 km. German designers have made great efforts to ensure that such a power unit together with an 8-speed transmission demonstrates a relatively economical expense, but do not forget that here we are talking only about the fuel of the highest quality. "BMW 528" - a classic representative of the category "all-wheel drive cars.

" Nissan Juke "

In a fanciful crossover, one of the most modest engines in our rating (1.6 liters), nevertheless up to the usual hundred it accelerates in 8 seconds. Economic performance (9.4 / 8) is achieved primarily due to the installation of the transmission "xtronic CVT Juke". When combined, the car consumes less than 9 liters.

"Lexus RX450"

Besides the fact that this crossover is one of the most popular in the class, it is also economical. 3.5-liter power unit consumes on average not more than 8 liters of fuel per 100 km. Agree, an impressive figure for a car of this class. The stumbling block is that the use of the latest technology can not be cheap, so the price of cars can still reach 50 thousand dollars.

"Subaru Impreza"

Another bright representative of the category "all-wheel drive cars". Not the most powerful car (148 hp) in our list, however, in its sports characteristics hardly anyone will doubt. Even with an all-wheel drive system, the car consumes less than 9 liters of fuel in city conditions and less than 7 liters when driving on the highway.

As you can see, all-wheel drive cars can be economical. Another thing is that almost all of them are "branded", which means that by default they have quite a high cost.
