Zucchini, varieties for every taste

Kabachok is the closest relative of a pumpkin (from one genus and family). The plant is at home (and it comes from the New World) for many years, but in the climatic conditions of Russia it is grown as an annual one. Zucchini requires the same conditions as pumpkin, but more thermophilic (it does not tolerate temperatures below 0 degrees, although a short time suffers a cooling to +6). From pumpkin squash is also distinguished by a more compact form of bush and early ripeness. In addition, unlike the pumpkin, the food is mostly consumed by young (not reached the biological maturity) fruit of courgettes. Delicacy is considered small and not having a hard crust zucchini. Cultivation of this culture as a whole is not too different from the rest of the pumpkin. Let's consider some peculiarities of zucchini farming.

Zucchini is a plant of a long day, needs good illumination. With a lack of light, it grows poorly and fructifies, because the flowers do not pollinate. In bad weather and when thickening the plantations, the quality of the fruit is markedly affected. Like all pumpkin, zucchini well tolerates insufficiently reparted manure and compost. Another zucchini does not like excessive moisture and is often affected by fungal diseases, especially in heavy rains. To prevent this, you can add an additional dose of potassium fertilizer to the plant . This culture has a well-developed root system, which makes it drought-resistant. But at the same time zucchini has large leaves and evaporates a lot of moisture, because of this, in a strong sun, the plant can wilt. In this case, it must immediately be abundantly watered, but only under the root! Drops of water in the sun act like lenses and burn leaves.

In general, the vegetable marrow is not difficult to grow, it does not require special care. But the harvest yields good.

What are the varieties to choose? They can be ripening and medium-ripening, but this difference is small, from shoots to maturing of the first fruits in the early varieties is 38-45 days, in the middle - 60-65. The earliest varieties are:

  • "Roller" - from shoots to ripening 36-38 days, bush very compact, whips short. More than other varieties are resistant to cold, little affected by disease. Zucchini varieties "Rolik" have smooth, white and delicious fruit.
  • "White" - also supernormal, 35-40 days. The plant is bushy, cold-resistant, unpretentious and resistant to powdery mildew. The fruits are white, very tasty. Zucchini variety "White" yield slightly higher than the previous grade.

Zucchini varieties are not very many, but today breeders bring out new, interesting and promising varieties and hybrids. Hybrids, as a rule, are more productive and resistant to diseases and unfavorable conditions, but their seeds are rather expensive, and their own seeds can not be obtained from them.

The following hybrids are the success of truck farmers:

"Apollo F1" and "Masha F1", they are early, well pollinated in any weather and little sick. The fruits of them are tasty and mild.

Marrows are white (most old varieties), yellow-fruited (have a delicate taste and contain a lot of carotene) and green fruit, or zucchini (young ovaries can be eaten raw, actively used in the Mediterranean kitchen). In addition, zucchini have a finer crust than zucchini, zucchini varieties are more diverse.

The best varieties of courgette zucchini: Zebra, Tsukesh, Aeronaut, Nephrite and Pharaoh. Zucchini "Nephritis" ripens later (55-65 days), but they have a delicious, juicy and tender flesh, and the bushes themselves are very decorative due to the mottled leaves.

The best yellow-fruited varieties: "Yellowfish", "Pinocchio" and "Helena".

Good selection seeds are offered to Russian firms "Gavrish" and "Sedek" that enjoy trust among truck farmers.

The best and most unusual varieties of "Sedek": "Burzhuin" with round fruits, "Gray" - zucchini with fruits of gray color, "Macaroni" - the flesh of the fruit during cooking is broken into spaghetti fibers.

Interesting and high-yielding varieties "Gavrish": "Drakosha", with black fruits, "Mavr" and "Kuand", their yield can reach 20 kg per square meter.

Not forgotten in the people and the old, tested variety "Gribovsky 37".
