How does the manual winch work?

The hand winch (mounted on the UAZ "Bukhanka", for example) has the simplest design. The cable is wound on the drum with a lever (you can use a small scrap or mount). Such a device has its advantages:

• Independence from energy sources and other resources;
• Sufficiently small overall dimensions and light weight;
• Availability (low price);
• With the increase of the lever, the winch pulls up.

Of the disadvantages can be distinguished discomfort when working in unsuitable conditions (rain, snow, frost, mud).

Gross or mechanical winch

The essence of the work of this type is that the device is connected to the shaft of pulling the motor of an SUV. There are no other sources of power. The main advantages of the mechanical winch on the UAZ are simple and understandable device design, low price and the ability to control the speed of winding the cable on the drum, increasing or lowering the engine speed. The disadvantages are obvious: the functionality of the node depends on the serviceability of the engine.

Winch with hydraulic motor

A fairly common type. The beauty of this winch is that it can be mounted on any car with a hydraulic pump, including UAZ. The winch with hydraulic system is quite powerful, has small dimensions, quiet running. True, the installation depends on the presence in the car hydraulic booster. Electric winch

This type is most popular among many motorists. The main part of this winch is the electric drive, which is powered by the on-board wiring. Managing it is fairly easy. Plus electric winch is that it is able to work without a running engine, that is, autonomously. The principle of its operation is simple: it is necessary to rewind the required length of the cable, fix it and run the electric drive. It is fixed to a special power bumper (its scheme is indicated below).

Advantages of the electric winch :

The stages of making the winch on the UAZ with their own hands

• We take the Bulgarian and cut the tube with a square section, and then use welding to join the parts. We check their perpendicularity, equality of angles, and dimensions. The platform under the winch on the UAZ is fixed, then we make special holes in it, with which the motor will be fixed. The essence of the next step is to clean, primed and painted the resulting structure. Then we start to make a drum.
• From the metal sheet, cut out two circles of 350 mm, and in the center we drill a hole where the shaft will be fastened. Around it, on a circle of 80 mm, we drill six identical holes. Then another four for fixing the hub. Prepared hairpins are fixed, we put on them pipes with a diameter of 12 mm, and from the top we cover with the second disk, tightening the whole thing with nuts.
• The drum is put on the already assembled shaft. The hub and the big star are fixed from the outside.
• The drum itself is attached to the base of the winch. The shaft is fixed by means of a hub and prepared bolts. We put the motor on the dried platform. Its output shaft must have a small star. Then a special chain of suitable size is put on and the tension is set (it should not hang or be overtightened).
• Adjusting it, you need to watch that the chain does not interfere with winding the cable on the drum. After this adjustment, securely fix the motor.
• The cable is attached to the shaft and tightly wound on the finished drum. We attach the carbine and the steel hook. The winch on the UAZ is assembled and ready for use. You can test!

We make the winch out of the starter

Many do not know, but the winch can be made from an ordinary starter. It works just like the above. The only difference is that instead of a motor she has a working starter. For such a device, a planetary gearbox, which can be removed from the engine of a "penny" or "six", is better suited. To it the self-made adapter is fastened, and then already - a starter. We put the gears on the primary shaft so that they approach each other. Next, install the starter and connect the wiring.

Winch from ratchet with your own hands

For a device of this type, we will need a brake mechanism from the KamAZ truck. This mechanism can withstand a load of up to six tons.

We disassemble the gearbox, pull out the gears, having dismantled the so-called "worm gear". To do this, we need to hammer out a shaft with splines. You can press it out with a press, but not all have it.

The resulting parts are welded together according to the plan. We remove the gear, vertically fix the pipe in a vice. Between the splines and the tube we drive the nails opposite each other. This will help center the gear relative to the gear.

After that, we cut the heads of the nails under the root and strengthen the structure by welding. We put the gear in the body of the reducer, simultaneously with the "worm". The shaft is clogged in the "worm". To install the drum, take two washers and weld them to the drive shaft.

The work is finished, now you can install the winch on the UAZ and use a useful device.

Winch from motorcycle own hands

You will not believe it, but the winch can be made from an old motorcycle, or, to be more precise, some parts that are great for making a "self-propelled" mechanism.

As in the previous versions, the motor is fixed to the frame. The working part of the winch is made of the main sprocket (it is located on the engine). The motorcycle chain is perfect for our needs. The drum is fixed with previously prepared nuts and bolts. If the design allows, then on the frame, you can make longitudinal holes. They will allow the drum to move, which will help regulate the tension of the chain.
