Why did not the ring open at the Olympics: technical failure or diversion?

The summer is in the yard, but joyful experiences for the success of our team at the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi have not yet been forgotten. Let's return to memories in those days. I remember that the first Winter Olympics in Russia was preceded by a number of scandals related to the financing of this important sporting event. Then, closer to the opening ceremony, all kinds of blunders began to happen. The whole world flew pictures of public toilets without partitions and how the Olympic torch at the very gates of the Kremlin did not go out in time. But if the fire could be renewed (with the help of the Zippo lighter, which Officer Shavarsh Karapetyan willingly offered to remain anonymous, an FSB officer), the incident at the Fisht Stadium during the opening ceremony did not escape the attention of the world community. Why did not the ring open at the Olympics? And why did the viewers of Russian TV channels not even notice this annoying blunder?

History of the Olympic rings

The emblem of the world sport competition was born in 1913. It was developed by Baron Pierre de Coubertin himself, who is rightly called the founder of the modern Olympic Games. Figure - five rings, linked together in such a way as to form two rows - was adopted because the ancient Greek vases often encounter such a motive. Already later, circles were given ideological importance, connecting them with parts of the world. So, it is commonly believed that the green ring symbolizes Australia, the yellow one - Asia. Red means America, black - Africa, and blue - old woman-Europe. This symbol - a necklace of five circles - is present on the official flag of the Olympics. It was first raised in 1920 in Belgian Antwerp. This symbolism is used at the opening and closing ceremonies of the Games. But why did not the ring that symbolized America open at the Olympics? Many saw this as a sign.

Snow ceremony

According to the idea of the organizers of the production, during the opening ceremony of the Olympics in Sochi - after the performance of "Polovtsian Dances" from the opera "Prince Igor" - five gigantic snowflakes were to swirl over the stadium. As they descended, they should first be transformed into stars, then into flowers, and finally into symbolic woven rings. This action should mean that the Olympics came to Russia. But as a result, only four "snowflakes" successfully completed the transformation at the ceremony. Not opened one ring - the upper right, red, symbolizing America. This circumstance gave reason to rejoice at the opponents of the US, although the circle symbolizes the whole side of the world, together with friendly Honduras and Venezuela inclusive.

In Russia, everything is fine

Against the background of previous blunders the world community was waiting for the opening ceremony of something similar. In foreign media and the blogosphere immediately appeared a lot of fotozhab and demotivators, beating this incident. However, Russian viewers for a long time remained completely unaware that the ring did not open in Sochi. On the screens of their TVs, the ceremony passed like a note, without a hitch. Why? The fact is that the opening of the Olympics was not broadcast live, but in the recording, with a delay from real time for a couple of minutes. The operators had the opportunity to mount the "picture" and show the shooting of the dress rehearsal of this solemn ceremony. Probably, the security service is still being inquired and understands why the ring did not open at the Olympics. The spectator on this joyful day was filled with pride for his country. But the oppositionists said that this "Potemkin Ring" gave them the right to assert that Russians live in parallel reality. So everyone had their own assessment of what happened.

Why did not the ring open at the Olympics?

The author of the script of this ceremony and the producer Konstantin Ernst shed light on the causes of the incident . He admitted that the budget of the introductory show was cut by half, and the terms of his preparation - in three. Therefore, it is not surprising that in technical terms , something went wrong. The attempted hijacking of a Turkish aircraft by a drunken tourist has nothing to do with this. It is also foolish to regard this as a diversion. The organizers of the Games in Sochi dignified out of the situation when, at the final ceremony, people first formed, forming four rings, and then the fifth rolled in with great pomp. A sense of humor saved us this time too. But those blunders left by the last Olympics - the fifth ring and the notorious lighter Zippo, were taken over by various trading companies.
