What words have the ending -ing. Ending in English: rules and examples of use

There are many cases in which you want to convert a word, adding at the end -ing. The ending in English does not bear such a strong semantic load, as in Russian. Since English belongs to analytical languages, grammatical interrelations are expressed through various service words, unlike Russian, which belongs to the category of synthetic languages. In the latter, grammatical functions are expressed more clearly by means of various morphemes: prefixes, endings, suffixes.

Most often, the "ingovoe" ending is used when using non-personal verb forms (gerund, participle present, infinitive) and in the formation of long periods. However, verbs with the ending -ing in English are not a single instance of such word-formation. There are also verbal nouns, and also adjectives with such an ending.

A group of Continuous and Perfect Continuous

In the formation of long times, the auxiliary verb to be is used in conjunction with the participle of the verb that conveys the essence of the utterance. The form of the sacrament in this case is in the present tense.

  • I am watering the camomiles in my garden. - I water the chamomile in my garden (Present Contiuous).
  • I had been watering the camomiles for twenty minutes when it began to rain. - I watered the chamomile for 20 minutes, when suddenly it started to rain (Past Perfect Continuous).

The use of the verb with the ending -ing in combination with the infinitive: examples

Infinitive is an impersonal verbal form that indicates only the action in the process. In this case, the person, number and pledge are not indicated. The Russian language is translated by an undefined form (that is, a verb that answers the question: "What should I do?"). An infinitive is formed in English by adding a particle to before the verb.

There is such a thing as Continuous Infinitive. In Russian there is no analog of this form. Translated mostly in the verb in personal form. Formed by the infinitive of the verb to be + a semantic verb ending in -ing. (The ending in English is added according to the rules listed in the special section of this article).
