Eightfold bandage: appointment, technique

In case of fracture of the clavicle or ankle injury, an eight-shaped bandage is used. How correctly to impose it? About this and not only read in the article.

Historical reference

For the first time, bandages for injuries began in ancient times. With Hippocrates for this purpose, successfully used resin, sticky plaster, canvas. It is known that in ancient civilizations special devices and bandages were used, with the help of which they treated fractures and various curvatures of the spine, arms, legs. Bandages for the first time are mentioned in the first century of our era. And already in the ninth to eleventh centuries, Arab scientists in their writings describe the use of gypsum in fractures.

In the Middle Ages, people have mastered the method of treating dislocations and fractures with the help of cargo. In the seventeenth century, German doctors suggested a bandage of strips of cloth intertwined. In the future, the medical practice firmly included bandages. Already by the middle of the nineteenth century, scientists created almost all types of bandage dressings that exist today.

Cruciate dressing with collarbone trauma

The eight-part bandage is made of a soft material and is applied to the injured area to ensure that the joints are fixed in their usual position. This contributes to the fastest recovery of the body.

Fractures of the clavicles occur more often in young children, since at this age the bones did not completely solidify. In this case, there is no displacement, the fragment is held by the periosteum. Such children's fractures are called the "green twig". It happens that the collarbone splits into parts. This usually occurs when a trauma is caused by an accident.

After correcting all the bones and fixing them in the correct position, you need to apply an eight-shaped bandage, which is also called cruciform. Thanks to it in the area of the shoulder girdle, the necessary tension is created.

Subsequently, the callus may form, but due to the eight-shaped bandage the thickening will not occur, and the hands, fingers and shoulder joints will completely retain mobility. At present, nothing is better than a cruciate bandage with a fracture of the collarbone. But, there are cases when it is necessary to apply a bandage of another type or to establish a cast.

The technique of imposing the eight-shaped bandage

To perform the work you need to stock up several rolls of bandage 13-15 cm wide. You can cut it yourself from gauze. Still need about one kilogram of cotton, but not synthetic and cellulose.

The dressing for a fracture of the clavicle is imposed by a medical professional. The patient is seated on a stool with his back to the doctor, who puts one leg on a chair, and knees against the area between the patient's shoulder blades. This procedure is necessary in order to give the body the right position.

Then, large tampons of cotton wool are put in the underarm area, and the shoulder joints in front should be completely closed. This construction does not require fastening, so the bandage is applied immediately from the front, and the armpits are kept. Cross the bandage bandages between the shoulder blades. Thus, the required tension is created. Moreover, each new turn of the bandage lifts and pulls the shoulders back. Bandages are applied from the neck to both sides.

The bandage in case of a fracture of the collarbone should not squeeze the nipples and interfere with blood circulation of the chest and extremities. If you doubt the reliability of the construction, the bandage can be sewn on separate passages.

The application of the eight-shaped bandage ensures reliable fixation of bone fragments, their displacement is impossible. During the rehabilitation period, the victim should be in a supine position. Once every three or four days, you should do the bandaging. This is necessary in order to visually evaluate the picture of bone coalescence and to make an X-ray photograph. The limb from the injured side should not be lowered down. It should be secured to a healthy shoulder with a bandage.

Operative method of treatment of clavicle fracture

Upon examination, the doctor evaluates the patient's condition. If in the subclavian area the vessels are squeezed by the displaced bone, then the specialist prescribes the operation.

There are such fractures of the clavicle, when the fusion lasts a long time. And sometimes and at all transplantation of that part of a bone which is not subject to restoration is at all necessary. After such an operation, the eight-shaped bandage is no longer needed.

Injury of ankle

Foot foot has a high mobility and a sufficiently large angle of deflection from the axis when moving. In this area there are many muscles and ligaments connecting the elements of the joints. Soft fabrics are elastic and have the property of shrinking. They are the stabilizers of the joints.

In case of trauma, the joint is displaced, acquiring abnormal mobility. In more severe cases, deformation of the foot may occur. It is important to remember that the majority of a person's body is on the ankle joint, and this creates additional tension in the muscles and ligaments. Increases the load on the joint and while wearing tight, tight shoes with high heels. Therefore, ankle injury is not considered a rarity. Reliable protection in case of fracture is an ankle bandage.

Bandage dressing technique

A typical type of dressing for an ankle injury is the same eight-shaped bandage (or cruciform, as it is called). With its correct application, the mobility of the foot is limited, which is very important for fracture or dislocation, since the broken connective fibers are restored more quickly.

An ankle bandage normalizes the blood flow, improves lymphatic drainage, eliminates the pinched nerves, reduces pain and inflammation of the foot. When applying the bandage, circular movements are used. The bandage is carried through the ascent to the outer edge of the foot, then along the circumference a few turns. Next, the bandage bandage is removed to the ankle area and the algorithm is repeated.

An eight-part bandage can be applied to the joint and the house if the injury is not dangerous and there is no need to hospitalize the victim. This is possible with stretching of ligaments, muscles. If the injury is serious (for example, fracture), then you should contact a trauma center.

Thus, the bandage is an emergency measure in the most varied injuries of the musculoskeletal system.
