3. The second layer of glue is also applied to both surfaces and held for 1-2 minutes, after which the parts are combined and placed under the press.
4. The drying process lasts 3-4 days.

Repair and bonding of thermoplastics

The plastics of the group of thermoplastic easily soften from high temperatures and can melt under the action of some solvents. Such plastic is used in the manufacture of office pens, soap boxes, combs, frames for glasses and children's toys. Previously, all these items were made from combustible plastic celluloid, and now it is increasingly replaced with non-combustible cellulose acetate. And the one and the other plastic is very soluble in acetone. Adhesive for plastic of this type can be made independently, this requires a solvent (2 parts) acting on the desired kind of plastic and celluloid sawdust (1 part). The ingredients are mixed and stored in a container with a tight lid.

Bonding of thermoplastics differs from thermosets, it can be realized in several ways:

1 way

The chopped parts are lubricated with the solvent acting on the plastic and are waiting until the edges of the split become sticky, after which the parts are folded and put under the press until completely hardened.

2 way

For gluing, nitrocellulose glue is used for plastic grade "Mars", "C-1" and "MC-1".

3 way

The edges to be glued, heated over the fire or applied to them by hot metal, after which the softened edges of the parts are connected. When heating, it is necessary to prevent combustion so that the seam is not dark.
