What is to "stand on its hind legs"? A duck is an object or word expressing a type of behavior?

In life there are people who show a sharp protest against something by their behavior. Such disagreement, expressed by all its appearance, is often found in animals, especially in horses. They stand on their hind legs and assume an upright position, demonstrating a protest. In such cases, they say: "Rises!". Where did this expression come from, and how to deal with such a rebel?

Value

Usually, the behavior that expresses resistance is somehow connected with self-defense. With him and often relate the phrase: "Rises!".

However, the very word "rack" is the term that denoted the instrument of punishment and torture. It was used in Russia and in Europe from the 14th to the 18th century. This is a terrible weapon. It was intended to stretch the body of a punishable person. In this case, as a rule, its ligaments were torn. In Europe, it happened that the rack was equipped with spikes. In Russia the word meant a deck. They said: "Put the accused in a rack."

In our time, use the expression "stand on its hind legs". It means - sharply resist, protest, rock, disagree. To get upset means to object, to resist, to take up arms, express sharp irritation, to behave defiantly, while standing upright, standing on one's feet. And then, when in the XIV-XVIII centuries they said "put on the rack", which means - to punish with the help of an appropriate instrument of torture.

Punishment

There was another kind of punishment - on the pillar. The accused was hung up on a post with arms turned behind his back, and the cargo was tied to the legs. With this method of punishment, the unfortunate man left his hands out of the joints. The hanged man was beaten with a whip, could set fire to fire, break ribs. There was no difference between the male and female sex, except for the edges. Their women did not break. Basically in the Russian Empire, the rack is a tool for punishing thieves.

But this type of punishment was not always used and not everywhere. For example, in the agreement between Riga and Smolensk, dating back to the 13th century, it was said that Rusyns should be bailed out or put in iron, not in a rack. But the Pskov court charter said that the rack was a punishment for those who would get into the court or hit the door-keeper.

Protest in horses

Among the people involved in breeding horses, their riding, horse riding, you can often find the expression "the horse stood on an oak tree". It's the same as a rack or a candle. The reasons for this behavior of the horse may be different circumstances. If the horse stands on its hind legs and the rider sits on it, then, most likely, this is the answer to rough treatment. Perhaps the rider is inexperienced and unskillfully handling reins. Then the horse, wanting to get rid of the sensations of pain, does not obey and refuses to move forward. At the same time, she sharply rises to her hind legs and turns into a side convenient for her.

It happens that the horse simply plays from an overabundance of energy. This behavior is characteristic of young unbroken individuals. The behavior of a horse standing on a candle shows a discrepancy between the strong excitation of the horse's nervous system and the restraining actions of the rider.

It happens that the horse stands on its hind legs, staying on the pasture, in the levade, on the cord. Then it speaks of aggression, the desire to attack, to strike with a hoof. But not only. Often horses play, express a good mood, pour out an excess of energy. To distinguish these states, look at the feet and hooves. If the legs are straight, and the hoofs are open and pointing forward, it's ready to hit. If the hoofs are directed inwards, and the legs are bent - this is a game. But even at such a time, you should not approach the horse. As the horse looks on its hind legs (photo can be seen below), almost everyone knows.

How to handle a horse that stood on a candle?

If the rider is on a horse, and she rises, it must be forced to fall on all legs. And it does not matter for what reason it happened. If the horse under you has already risen, it is necessary to do the following:

  • To do this, weaken the occasion before sagging, but in no case do not they throw!
  • The heaviness of your body needs to be translated forward, so the horse will have to descend. In no case should you lean back! So you can throw a horse on your back, and fall yourself, damaging your spine. If the fall can not be avoided, you need to try to push off from the horse so that it falls away from it. Otherwise, it can damage the rider during a fall.
  • Perhaps, there are sharp irritants nearby, then it is necessary to immediately move aside.
  • When the horse is on all legs, it must be vigorously forwarded. The cause of work should be relaxed.

If there is a disobedience to the horse, and she wants to turn in the other direction, then it is necessary to almost sharply lie on her neck and not let her turn her head. To do this, you just need to pick up the outer halter, exactly so that you do not let her make a head turn. It is necessary to act with caution, without overtaking the reins. It is important to know that if it turns, it can be sharply suffered at a gallop.
