Tverskoy boulevard: the past and present of Moscow

"And on Tverskaya, and on Tver smell of magical coffee ..." - was in the 90 years of the now last century a popular song with such words. Everyone who knew and loved Moscow was purring it to himself with pleasure. However, for those who are familiar with this wonderful city only from books, movies and TV shows, the names "Arbat", "Boulevard Ring", "Clean Ponds" sound like music. One of such famous places will be discussed.

Historical reference

Of course, you guessed it: it's Tverskoy Boulevard. His name he received from the street, which was adjacent initially. There was this event in the late 18th century, or rather - in 1796. However, it is worth looking further into the past. The Moscow principality was a lion's prey for the Crimean Tatars. From their raids long since moaning Russian land. And on the place where Tverskoy Boulevard is now located, there was once a thick wall of wall built on the earthen rampart. Muscovites, under the guidance of architect F. Konya, laid it out of white stone, in several rows. And inside, outside the fence, people settled, homes were upset.

When the enemy came, the townspeople led the defense from the walls of the White City. By the way, a historical fact: it was the fortress walls that Kazy-Girey, who refused to assault Moscow, fear in his time. When the restless neighbors calmed down, the Russian state grew stronger and was no longer afraid of foreigners' raids, the need for fortifications was no longer needed. The walls were dilapidated and crumbled, and in 1774, for the improvement of the city, it was decided to demolish them, to level the land in the district and plant them with trees - in the manner of western parks. This is how Tverskoy Boulevard, the oldest in Moscow, the largest in the city, known and loved by local residents and guests of the capital, originated.

Perestroika, restructuring

Naturally, this historical place has changed its appearance. The first trees did not have time to settle down, as they were replaced by the buildings of the townspeople, who actively started the development of the free territory. Residential houses, shops and shops were clinging to the speed of swallows' nests. And the mayors had to fight almost for Tverskoy Boulevard. Yes, and birches, though primordially Russian trees, did not feel comfortable in the hot Moscow climate. So soon the white-shouldered beauties were replaced by less capricious, but scented limes. That's when the innovation was finally appreciated by the citizens who finally felt themselves Europeans. Moreover, the architect of the project Karin ennobling this project has invested a lot of soul and talent in the matter.

Boulevard of the "new time"

From that time to the present day, Tver - the most popular for walking and meeting Moscow Boulevard. It is worth mentioning that he experienced a radical reconstruction in 1812, when the French captured Moscow, and one of the camps was organized on the boulevard. The trees that did not go to the fires (the case, as you remember, it was in the winter), burned down during a fire. But they restored the boulevard in the future quickly, decorating it with statues and busts of great people, picturesque gazebos and sculptures, fountains and bridges, rotundas. In the new confectioner you could enjoy air cakes and delicious chocolate. A brass military band played popular tunes. The buildings that were built along it, then and later, bore a vivid print of classicism. Then appeared profitable houses in the Art Nouveau style and eclecticism. Most of them now are monuments of architecture of federal importance and are protected by law.

Cultural life and leisure

In our life everything flows, everything changes. So the boulevard in the second half of the 19th century again experienced a period of decline. The last Russian emperor even appointed special caretakers from city officials, so that they were engaged exclusively in improving the places of cultural leisure for Muscovites. Especially won from the decree of Tverskoy Boulevard. The exhibition of book novelties, held here for the first time at the beginning of the last century, has become a good annual tradition, as well as book bazaars.

In the mezzanine of the Pukolov-Krekshina mansion, exhibitions of works by Russian artists were held. On one of them Tretyakov saw the picture "Princess Tarakanov" and bought it for his gallery. Currently, Tverskaya - one of the most convenient Moscow boulevards, as if specially adapted for organizing social events.

On its avenues is a magnificent photo exhibition of landscapes of Switzerland. There were also expositions on the space theme. On the boulevard, you can still join the work of artists, only those who are already modern.

Restaurants and Coffee Shops

Speaking of attractions, you can not mention the restaurant on Tverskoy Boulevard. More precisely, about a few.

Firstly, this institution "Pushkin" is an elite place, whose regulars are the stars of politics, show business, secular lions and lionesses, explicit and secret millionaires or just very rich people.

Halls of the restaurant in its interior contain antique things: furniture, tapestries on the walls, dishes and much more. Each of the halls is decorated in a unique individual style, luxuriously, nobly, beautifully.

The second catering establishment is the cafeteria-confectionery "Bublik". Tverskoy Boulevard is loved by celebrities. And it is not surprising that the tablet "Bublika" indicates: "Ksenia Sobchak's Cafe". Baking there is wonderful, and prices are affordable even for students. At least that's what they say!

A walk to Pushkin and not only

Since 1880 at the end of the street there was a monument that perpetuated the memory of such a great Russian poet as AS Pushkin. Tverskoy Boulevard was the first place in Moscow, where this monument was erected. The sculpture of Opekushin's work stood in its place for 70 years, until in 1950 the monument was moved to Pushkin Square. Decorate the boulevard with 2 more remarkable monuments - monuments to Timiryazev and Yesenin. And the third "exhibit" of Tverskoy already refers to the monuments of nature. This is the famous Pushkin oak, which is more than 230 years old. Under his shadow it's so nice to sit and think about the eternal ...
