Natural features, climate. Greece is waiting for tourists at any time of the year

Greece is located in the south of Europe. The country is washed by the Ionian, Mediterranean, Aegean seas and has a subtropical Mediterranean climate, characterized by hot dry summers and warm rainy winters. Depending on the specific area, weather conditions can vary greatly. Thus, the climate on the islands of Greece and in the southern parts of the country is milder than in the northern and central regions. In the north in winter there may even be negative temperatures, especially in November and January. Coolness is accompanied by rain. The driest period in this area is from July to September. The islands and southern zones are characterized by a warmer climate. In the hottest months (July, August), the temperature can rise to + 40 ° C or higher, but on islands it is easier to carry such heat than on the mainland. Winter here is more dry than in the north, the average temperature is + 5 - 10 ° C. Let's take a closer look at the climate in Greece by months.

Greek Spring

This time of year begins with a general flowering: the buds swell, wild flowers blossom - literally before our eyes Greece is transformed. The climate in this period is not the same in different regions. The temperature in the country in March can vary from +14 to +19 ° C, characterized by small rains. In the sea, the water is still cool - does not exceed + 16 ° С. In April, the weather becomes warmer, blossoming continues, and even arid islands such as Crete and the Cyclades are covered with a green carpet. At this time the sea is not yet warmed up, but the air temperature already reaches + 20 - + 23 ° С. In May, the country plunges into the summer - on the islands open swimming seasons. The water temperature is usually + 19 ... + 21 ° C for this period. The second half of May is a very good time for rest, at this time of the year the island is dominated by a sunny, warm but not hot climate. Greece, however, has not yet been occupied by tourists, as it happens in July and August, so the prices for tours and services are quite acceptable.

Greek summer

In June, it becomes hot already for real, but the highest temperatures are expected ahead. Sea water is heated to + 25 ° C, air - up to + 30 ° C and above. Bathe in the sea during this period is comfortable for adults and children, so you can safely go on vacation in the first half of June. In July, the climate becomes even hotter. Greece is covered with heat throughout the territory. And if in the north the temperature reaches + 35 ° С, then in the center it can be +40, and even + 45 ° С. Water in the sea becomes warmer by 1-2 ° C. August is characterized by weather similar to the July weather, but the heat at this time is easier to bear due to the coolness brought by the sea monsoons.

Greek Autumn

September still looks like summer, this is one of the best months for a trip to the country - there are fewer tourists, the weather is not so hot, but still comfortable and without rain. And most importantly, what attracts tourists - the warmest sea, perfectly warmed over the summer. On the street, the temperature is kept around + 30 ° C, it is easy to breathe easily thanks to the sea monsoons. In October, the climate becomes cooler. Greece during this period is exposed to rain, but short-lived. Nevertheless, the velvet season is still going on, the air temperature is about + 25 ° C, and the water - + 20 ° C. At the end of October, it's already risky to go on holiday to Greece - a rainy season is coming, although clear days will certainly also be found. Rest at this time on the southern islands (Patmos, Crete, Rhodes) - where the weather is still an order of magnitude warmer, rains are much rarer, and the water is still heated to + 24 ° C. And only in November, autumn begins - it's already cold to swim in the sea, but you can devote time to excursions and walks. The temperature in the street is about + 20 - + 22 ° C.

Greek winter

Winter time is characterized by regions varying in temperature from +5 to +13 ° С. It can snow, but usually it melts still in the air. In the mountains a colder climate. Greece opens the ski season, snow in the mountainous areas can lie until April. The weather in December is cool, the temperature is + 10- + 12 ° C, swimming in the sea, of course, is no longer possible. Still, tourists continue to visit Greece, attracting them at this time the forthcoming series of holidays, starting from the day of St. Nicholas on December 6 and ending with Christmas and New Year. By the way, in January the weather can make a nice gift - sometimes the temperature rises to + 20 ° C. The Greeks call such an event an alkaline day, because according to myths it is believed that a sharp warming is associated with the exclusion of chicks by alkyons (birds). In February, the weather, as a rule, becomes windy, damp. The average temperature in the country is set at + 12 ° C.
