Treatment of strawberries in spring from diseases and pests

He does not grow strawberries on his plot, probably only lazy. This is a very useful berry, delicious and also unpretentious. However, sometimes there are problems with this garden culture. The fact is that strawberries are quite often subjected to various kinds of diseases. So, in order not to reduce the yield for this reason, it is desirable to process the bushes in the spring. In this case, depending on the situation, you can use both folk remedies and chemical preparations. Further in the article, we will consider how strawberries are processed in spring and what methods are best used for this.

Major diseases

Most often strawberries and strawberries are struck:

  • Gray rot,
  • Leaf spot,
  • Verticillium wilt.

To a significant decrease in yield can also result in the infection of eggs and larvae of all kinds of insects. The most common problems for the owners of planting strawberries are:

  • Strawberry mite,
  • Garden slug,
  • Strawberry weevil.

So, let's figure out what the strawberries are treated in spring from diseases and pests from the list above.

How to deal with gray rot

The disease is quite dangerous. In a dry year, as a result of infection, up to 50% of the crop can be lost, in the damp - up to 80%. Its attributes include:

  • The appearance of brown, rapidly growing spots on berries,
  • The appearance of a gray fluffy plaque with a multitude of spores.

Infected berries quickly rot. Of course, in food they are completely unsuitable.

In order to avoid loss of yield as a result of infection with gray mold, strawberries should be treated in spring, at the beginning of growth, with iodine solution (10 ml per 10 l of water). To be faithful, the procedure is repeated during the budding period and again after 10 days.

If the strawberries are already infected, a strong infusion of garlic (100 g of dry leaves per 10 liters of water) should be used for treatment. A very good result can also be achieved by spraying the plants with mustard infusion (50 g of powder per 10 liters of warm water).

Sometimes the treatment of strawberries in the spring is done by cottagers also using chemicals. This can be, for example, "Fundazol" (0.2%) or "Euparen multi" (0.1%).

After the harvest is harvested, the soil in the garden with strawberries should be watered with a solution of ash (500 g per 10 liters of water).

Spotted leaves of strawberry

This disease can cause loss of yield up to 15%. On the leaves of wild strawberry, when infected, black spots appear with a white dot in the middle. The defeat is often very large - up to 90% of the entire planting. They struggle with this disease usually by chemical means. You can use them for spring spraying for prevention purposes. The easiest way is to use a 1% Bordeaux fluid in both cases. Sometimes the treatment of strawberries in the early spring in this case is done using copper chloride (0.4%).

Verticillium wilt

This is a very unpleasant disease, the treatment of which does not exist. It affects the root neck of the plant, as a result of which leaves begin to die. The bush "settles down", it becomes smaller than others in height. In this case, no treatment will help in the spring. Strawberries from pests and most other diseases can be saved. When infecting the same verticillium wilt, the only way to get rid of the pest is to dig out the sick bushes and destroy them. A new planting is best done away, not using plants from an old bed. Usually the first signs of this unpleasant disease can be noticed at the end of May.

Spraying from strawberry mites

The defeat of plants by these insects can lead to the loss of almost the entire crop - up to 80%. Kleshchiki, as well as their larvae suck the juice from the leaves of strawberries, resulting in the latter wrinkle, acquire a lighter shade and gradually die.

In order to avoid getting infected by planting these insects, in the spring, immediately after the snow comes down, the bed must be poured hot water (65 degrees). After a while, the soil should be loosened. It is also desirable to remove all last year's vegetable residues.

In the event that the landing in the previous season was heavily infested with pincers, the strawberries are treated in the spring with "Intavir" (1 tablet per 10 liters) or "Agverotin" (1 ml / l).

Ways to protect against slugs

These mollusks can damage a lot of berries. To combat this pest it is useful to spray the planting in spring or summer with a solution of mustard (100 g per 10 liters of water). Sometimes summer residents also use infusion of red pepper. You can also use pollination with tobacco dust or lime-lint.

Processing of garden strawberries in spring from strawberry weevil

Most often, strawberries are affected precisely by these insects. Appears weevil on plants in early spring, affecting leaves, shoots and buds. As a result, the yield of the plantation is significantly reduced. Especially strongly from this pest suffer early varieties of strawberries. To prevent the disease in the spring, you can use scaring spraying garlic solution (150 g crushed teeth per 10 liters of water). It is also not bad to apply a decoction of chilli pepper (1 kg of fruit per 10 l). Good help from weevils and infusion tansy (1 kg per 5 l).

Applied to get rid of this pest, including chemicals. For example, sometimes strawberries are sprayed with "Zeta" or "Intavir" (1 tablet per 10 liters). Do it in the spring. However, if there are a lot of weevils on the plants, the treatment can be repeated even after harvesting. This will not allow pests to leave for the winter in the garden.

So what to spray on the garden?

Thus, we have found out which pests and diseases most often affect strawberries. Preventive spraying of this culture is carried out depending on this particular situation. If in the previous year the plants were sick with gray rot or were infected with a weevil, the treatment of strawberries in the spring is made with infusion of garlic. If the leaves showed black spots, you can spray the beds with a weak solution of the Bordeaux liquid. Slugs are scared off with a solution of mustard, and against the mites employ "Intavir".

Very good from many pests and diseases helps the treatment of strawberries in the spring with copper sulfate (2-5 g per 10 liters). And, of course, to avoid the defeat of strawberries by any bacterial disease or insects, you should follow the rules of agricultural technology and the cultivation of this crop. For example, it is highly recommended not to place strawberries next to raspberries. The bender strikes the flowers of both berries. You can not plant this culture in damp, poorly ventilated places. Otherwise, it is unlikely to avoid infection with gray rot or slugs.

The importance of proper care

Feed this berry usually (in the first year after planting) mullein, and in all subsequent seasons - infusion of nettle. It is undesirable to pour strawberries. Especially in the spring. Otherwise, it may lose color. But it is also impossible to tolerate a strong drying of the soil under the plants. On well-fertilized land with sufficient irrigation and in the absence of weeds, the bushes will grow strong and resistant to any diseases.

The best precursors of strawberries are potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers and eggplant. Avoid many of the problems associated with infection, you can, planting between the strawberry bunches of garlic and from time to time rubbing its leaves. In this case, perhaps you will never have to perform such an operation as treating strawberries in spring from diseases and pests.
