The most economical cars: protecting the environment and saving your own money.

In the European Union, the automakers' agreement will soon come into force, which stipulates a reduction of the exhaust emissions to 140 g / km, which will lead to a drop in consumption of consumed fuel. It is this indicator is today the main and decisive criterion for the purchase of serial cars after the increase in gasoline prices by more than 60%. Now it is planned that the consumption will decrease to 5-6 l / 100 km for all cars using gasoline or diesel fuel. So, what are the most economical cars for today ?

Autoclubs and auto-mathematics magazines have taken on the functions of finding out the brands of cars that already meet the necessary environmental standards and which still require the modernization of equipment. Their primary task was to choose models of cars in the category of "most economical cars."

The rating was based on the NEFZ cycle and the EU methodology, which is based on the principle of measuring the specific fuel consumption of 80/1268 EWG and the standardization of substances classified as toxic, 70/220 EWG. Leader positions in the rating, which not so long ago published the auto magazine "Auto Zeitung", occupy the most economical cars, whose engines consume diesel fuel. However, it is not surprising! Such classes of machines occupied the first 92 places. Competition they made fashionable now hybrids - cars with a gasoline electric drive. The measurements were made without taking into account the driving technique and external factors. It is known that motorists spend two thirds of their engine road in city traffic and a third in the country road.

The rating of the mini-car class in the category of "most economical cars" was headed by Smart ForTwo on the basis of a diesel engine, the fuel consumption of which was only 3.8 liters. The first place in this ranking together with him could divide VW Polo Blue Motion, if not for a difference in 0.1 liters of fuel consumption. The owner of the gasoline engine Citroen C1 took only 21 place. Toyota Aygo and Peugeot 107 showed the same fuel consumption, but found themselves in the next place on the price policy and divided it also according to the principle of the same architecture.

The rating of the compact class in the category of "most economical cars" was headed by a hybrid Toyota Prius, which has an advantage over the diesel Renault Megane by only 0.2 liters.

Sports class cars presented the top ten, which included even four gasoline leaders: Brera 2.4 JTDM from Alfa Romeo, then Coupe 2.0 TFSI from Audi, then Coupe 2.0 from Hyundai and finally 325i Coupe from BMW. The first position among the most economical vehicles was taken by the model of the car with the petrol type of the engine of the upper class (luxury category) - the Lexus LS 600h.

The environmental policy of European countries is aimed at the introduction of economical compact urban vehicles. England, Germany and France, for example, have already imposed a restriction on the entry of SUVs into major cities and capitals. The proposal to introduce a toll road for cars with increased fuel consumption is under consideration. When buying, tax breaks and discounts for the most economical cars are provided.

Some expert advice to those who do not want or can not afford a car change:

1) It is not necessary to warm the engine in cold weather, most modern cars do not need it.

2) If possible, switch gears one after another: from 1st to 3rd, and you can start immediately and with 2nd.

3) When idling for more than 30 seconds, it is best to turn off the engine.

4) The type of braking, blocking the flow of fuel, in many modern cars saves both fuel and brakes.

5) Try to drive without jerks and avoid trips to short distances. Uniform driving instead of high-speed will save you up to 2 liters of fuel, as shown by the test.

6) Keep the pressure in the tires of the unloaded vehicle at 0.2-0.5 bar above the set one. Use the air conditioner only when necessary. Do not load heavily the trunk.
