The film "The Stoker" unfolds in the Northern capital of Russia in the era of perestroika, unemployment, poverty and crime. The main character is a hero of the Soviet Union, a retired major with a severe contusion named Yakut. Such a nickname is given to him because of his nationality.

Having become useless neither at war, nor in militia, Yakut settles in a boiler room where all next years lives and works. In his spare time, he writes a story on an old typewriter. A prerequisite for this kind of hobby was a vivid impression of the work of the ethnographer Václav Seroszewski "Hailakh". This was the name of the criminals left behind after their imprisonment in the villages of Yakutia.

Many guests come to the stokehouse, among them little girls Lena and Vera and former Yakut co-workers who have long ago laid dust on the regiment of the Order from Afghanistan and become unscrupulous bloodthirsty bandits. Despite many years of friendship, not all visitors turned out to be good people. Some of them carry great evil. And the quiet, measured life of the major ends when his brothers in arms bring to the stokehold the corpse of his daughter. Now he realized that for cruelty and lawlessness you have to pay the same coin.

Premiere

The full-length film "The Stoker" was shot in 2010 by the famous contemporary director Alexei Balabanov. The debut show took place in August of the same year in Vyborg during the film festival "Window to Europe". The film became a prize-winner in the category "High professional skill" and won the Guild of Film Critics and Film Critics of Russia.

In the international box office "Kochegar" appeared on January 29, 2011. On the cinema screens of our country, the crime drama came out much earlier, in mid-October 2010. The premiere was a failure, but the box office in five and a half million rubles covered all the money spent on the film.

Russian critics appreciated Balabanov's film much later. A special attention was paid to the director's work and the actors' play. Not the stars, but, on the contrary, people hitherto unknown to the general public were involved in the film "Kochegar".

The main role was played by Mikhail Skryabin. Earlier he was already in the film Balabanov. The actor played one of the roles in the scandalously known picture "Cargo 200". Pyotr Semak before the release of the film "The Fireman" has played in the cinema more than thirty roles. Professional actors of the movie "The Stoker" agreed to play for free. The film was not financed by anyone and was created mostly on the extraordinary creative potential of the film crew. Main character

Mikhail Skryabin was awarded the "White Elephant" award for his role in the film Balabanov. The image of the protagonist in the film is reminiscent of the director himself. As well as the fireman, Balabanov passed the Afghan war. The Yakut major is taciturn. Such was the life of the director.

But there is in the hero of Scriabin and features, which served as a reason for comparing him with the "little man", so often found in Russian classics. He is naive, honest, weak in something. The hero of the painting belongs to the national minority, which is also symbolic. But the "little man" always becomes big and terrible at some point. After killing his daughter, he dressed in military uniform. The stoker kills those who are guilty of the death of a girl, and then commit suicide. His story remains incomplete.

Not only in the script is the popularity, which was received in 2011 the film "The Stoker". Actors and roles were directed by the director on a special principle. With Balabanov worked only those who felt and understood it.
