The film "Mission Impossible: The Phantom Protocol": actors and roles, the plot

Released in 1996, "Mission Impossible" made a lot of noise among the audience and turned into one of the most popular franchises, and the protagonist Ethan Hunt became one of the favorite "spies" of the cinema world, along with representatives such as Jason Bourne and even James Bond himself. Each new film is waiting for the audience with impatience and with interest to review several times. Became popular and the fourth film - "Mission Impossible: The Phantom Protocol."

Plot

After rescuing colleagues from the Russian prison, Ethan Hunt gets a new assignment. To find out the real name of the international terrorist Cobalt, Hunt has to penetrate the secret storehouse of the Kremlin and remove the terrorist's file, which actively promotes nuclear war. But Cobalt is ahead of them and, along with his file, kidnaps a Russian nuclear suitcase. To leave, Cobalt undermines the Kremlin, placing traces so that the whole team was accused of Hunt.

In connection with the current situation, the US president initiates the "Phantom Protocol". The detachment "Mission Impossible" was officially disbanded. However, the Prime Minister gives Hunt the opportunity to escape, incidentally providing all the available information related to the Cobalt. An outlawed team must neutralize the terrorist and prevent a nuclear catastrophe. And the only opportunity is his business meeting in Dubai ...

Interesting facts about the creation

From the very beginning it was planned that as the second title the project will bear the name "Aries", but before going out to the rental the producers decided to call it "Mission Impossible. Protocol of the Phantom "(the actors included in the final composition, too, are not all those who were planned from the very beginning).

The most spectacular scenes of the film were filmed by IMAX cameras (especially the scenes where Hunt climbs the skyscraper in Dubai), which made the picture whiter and crisper. By the way, Cruz himself climbed the skyscraper, without the help of a backup (which is not surprising, because everyone knows that he always performs all the tricks that have become a kind of visiting card of the franchise).

Locations of filming are very diverse. They were held in Dubai, the Czech Republic and Canada. And although it is known that some of the scenes were filmed in Moscow, but as for the key plot twists, they were not shot in Russia. So, for example, the district court building in the city of Mlada Boleslav (Czech Republic) turned into a prison, where Hunt fled. Obukh Lane, where Ethan received the assignment in an abandoned payphone, was filmed in Vancouver. But as far as filming in the Kremlin is a fortress of Prague Castle.

The head of the shooting process was Brad Bird, known for staging the animated films "The Incredibles" and "Ratatouille." The picture "Mission Impossible: The Phantom Protocol" (the actors will be presented separately) became his debut as a filmmaker. In addition to him, Edgar Wright and Ruben Fleischer were candidates for the director's chair. Byrd managed to bring his zest to the project, which had a very positive impact on the commercial success of the picture - the fourth part of the franchise was the most successful in box office and reviews of viewers and film critics.

"Change of government" in the project "Mission Impossible: Phantom Protocol"

Tom Cruise has long been a man with the name associated with a popular spy franchise. Which, however, is not surprising, because he is also the producer of all the films in the series. But initially, after, to put it mildly, the modest success of the third "Mission", the studio responsible for staging and success of the films about Hunt was going to transfer the reins of the main project star to another in the fourth film. However, with the advent of Bred Byrd's project, everything changed. And, as practice has shown, for the better.

History "with a sense of humor"

After attracting new actors, the script underwent considerable processing. Now the whole thing was turning around not only around Ethan Hunt - all the members of the squad became the main characters, having equal shares of significance in the plot. There was also more humor and self-irony. Although, it would seem, where did they come from in such a film as "Mission Impossible: Phantom Protocol"? Simon Pegg, who, it can be said, "responsible" for the humor in the frame, was able to "revive" the film, which is reasonable, because he is a famous British actor of the comic genre.

Female team link

Appeared in this super-espionage company and a female image that embodied Paul Patton (known for his role in the sensational film "Deja Vu" by Tony Scott, as well as in the fantasy "Warcraft"). Thanks to its good physical fitness and oriental appearance, it is a good addition to the espionage team. And although the role does not fully disclose her artistic ability (which, in principle, for a film in this genre and not necessarily), the feeling that the person is not in his place, no. And with the task set, Paul Patton did the right thing. As for her role, she, like it was said above, has equal weight for the development of the plot, as well as other members of the detachment.

Characters and actors "on the other side"

Opens the list of "bad guys", of course, Cobalt, played by Swedish artist Michael Nyquist. He is also known for his works in such films as "Girl with a Dragon Tattoo", "John Wick", "Colony of Dignidad". The character of Mikael passionately wants to change the balance of power, so that the existing system collapses.

Not without the Russian scientist (Ivan Shvedov). After his family was taken hostage, he is forced to help Cobalt in the upcoming deal in Dubai. The cast in this film, you can say, is international. Russian actors were also invited to the role of Russian characters. And Ivan Shvedov is one of them. He is known for the films "Bourne Supremacy", "Spy Bridge", "Simple things". Also it can be seen in the series "Children of the Dune", "Crossing the Line". And this is not all of his work. He is also an actor of dubbing.

Also you can not fail to pay attention to another terrorist assistant. More precisely, the assistant. The role of the hired killer, who receives a fee diamonds, went to the gaining popularity of French actress Leah Seydou. The most famous of her works are Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds and the acclaimed Life of Adele. A few years after participating in the Mission, Lea became a "Bond girl", playing in Sam Mendes's film "007: Spectrum."

Also in the film, "lit" and the star of Indian cinema Anil Kapoor. He is known to a wide audience as the host of the program in the movie "Slumdog Millionaire". Although it was not very much in the frame, still his character catches the eye (in a good way).

Bad good Russian

By the way, the film "Mission Impossible: The Phantom Protocol" (the actors, as you can already see, are collected the most diverse) boasts another star with a world name - it's Vladimir Mashkov. The actor does not need separate views, because it is very difficult to find a person who did not watch at least one film with his participation. His characters always turn out bright and memorable. Recall only that in his extensive arsenal of roles in such films as "The Thief", "Composition for the Victory Day", "State Councilor" and so on. Also worth noting separately is his role as David Markovich Gozman in the TV series "Liquidation". In addition, Vladimir Mashkov is also shooting in Hollywood projects.

Having received a role in the "Mission", he played an employee of the Russian special services, eager to find the perpetrators of the Kremlin's bombing of terrorists, which Ethan's detachment considers. Although the role turned out to be not the most outstanding (this was conceived in the script), but still bright. But Mashkov can not do it any other way.

Unexpected success

As already mentioned above, from the very beginning it was thought that in this film Ethan Hunt "will transfer his powers" to a new character, not least the initiative came from Tom Cruise himself. In the original version of the script, in the scene where the car with Hunt and the prime minister with the assistant falls into the river, Hunt dies, and in the battle with the terrorist enters Wilm Brunt (assistant to the prime minister). Thus, it will become a kind of restart of the franchise with a new main character. But, as it was said above, with the advent of the new director everything changed.

The premiere of the film "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" (actors, by the way, were happy to participate in the filming process), which was held on December 7, 2011, many went with great apprehension. Someone thought that the project had already outlived its. Many believed that Cruz was no longer suitable for the role of a super agent. And the restart was generally skeptical, because without Hunt Cruise, "Mission" will lose its style and charm (and the rumors have been creeping for a long time).

The premiere was, it's called, with a bang. The picture was not just a success - the film "Mission Impossible: The Phantom Protocol" (Jeremy Renner, who is gaining momentum and who was expected to play the main character, played one of the key roles) became the highest grossing of the existing "Missions" at that time.

It's not over yet ...

The new life, which was breathed into the fourth film of the popular franchise "Mission Impossible", served as an impetus for subsequent paintings. Yes, and Cruz, along with Ethan Hunt, too, could prove that it is too early to "send them to retire." In 2015, the fifth painting entitled "Mission Impossible: The Tribe of the Outcasts", where the story begins with the unsuccessfully completed mission, which Hunt received at the end of the "Protocol", was published. The film turned out to be very interesting, but this, as they say, is another story ...
