Biography Remarque - war and peace, love and creativity

The secret of the tremendous success of Remarque's works is, apparently, that they reflect the values important to every person: loneliness and courage, fortitude and humanity. In the themes of his works, on their pages came the biography of Remarque. In the world were sold three tens of millions of his books.

Childhood and youth

The future writer was born in Prussia in 1898. As expected, I went to school, then worked as a teacher. But the war began, and he was called to the front. He quickly received a heavy wound with shards in the thigh. Then a long time was in the hospital - until the end of October 1918. Biography Remarque will receive the first scary sheet, which will be inscribed an unforgettable trace of the war for life.

After the war

Beginning in 1918, Remarque worked, changing various professions, and in 1920 his first novel was published. By 1925, he had already learned the basics of the work of a professional writer. Remarque moves to Berlin and marries a young beauty who has tuberculosis. The girl's name is Jutta, but all friends call her Jeanne. Her image later appears in several of his novels. Most of all, it is known as Pat from the "Three Companions". Having lived together for four years, they will divorce, and Jeanne will take the blame on herself.

But they will re-arrange the marriage so that she can leave Nazi Germany. They will no longer live as one family, but financially Remarque will help Jeanne for the rest of her life and leave her a significant inheritance. Noble attitude to someone else's already a woman, he will carry through all his life. That's how the biography of Remarque is related to his first marriage.

Grandiose success

In 1929 there is a novel that will cause fierce controversy in Germany. It is called "On the Western Front without Change." The images of the war-torn boys are shaken, which, sitting in the trenches, learned only one thing: to kill and die. They are not ready for a peaceful life. This will show his next work "Return" (1931). The first book will remove the film. From the fees for the huge circulation of the book translated into different languages, and the film Remarque will receive a worthy fortune. In April 1932, a world-renowned writer moved to Switzerland. There he, free from material problems, wrote "Three Comrades" (1936) and enthusiastically collects post-impressionist paintings. Biography Remarque is commemorated by international success.

Fatal year

In September, 37 in Venice, there will be two, the son of a bookbinder and the daughter of a policeman. The city of masks gathered celebrities around the world for a film festival. At the cafe table Remarque caught an interested look of a woman.

He was familiar with her companion and approached this pair. The writer introduced herself to the lady: Erich Maria Remarque. His biography after acquaintance will be filled with a disastrous and divine feeling of a half-divided, eating crumbs of love. By this time, the rich and famous Remarque was drinking. At the time of the meeting with Marlene Dietrich, he was 39 years old. Women preferred to remain friends with the writer, warrior, rake and dandy. There was a discord in my soul. The world collapsed not only inside, but also outside. The Nazis burned all his books, deprived him of citizenship.

The play of the senses

A few hours later the field of Marlene's acquaintance invited him to her room. They talked all night. Ironically, Marlene understood him perfectly. She also hated fascism with all her heart, as she hated everything ugly, she also remained without a homeland. Circumstances demanded the departure of Dietrich to the United States. Remarque lived only in letters.

I stopped drinking and counted the days before the meeting. They met in five months. Remarque began a new love affair, his and Marlene. He did not yet know where his story of the Arc de Triomphe would take. And Marlene did not promise anything and thus promised everything. Remarque locked himself and worked on the novel. Only so he could avoid the obsessive attention of reporters, parties and, most importantly, the shameless flirting of Marlene.

It is flirting. He forbade himself to think about more. For Rémarque, Ravik thought in the Arc de Triomphe. Marlene was an ordinary woman, but Remarque preferred to see her as a queen with her quirks. From an ordinary woman, he would have gone away easily, but could not leave the queen.

America

The world was also coming to an end. Everyone understood that the war was near. Marlene insisted that Remarque move with her to the United States. He hoped to share with Marlene not only holidays, but everyday life. Remarque made Marlene offer. She refused. Remarque had the spirit to go to a house near Los Angeles. Filled with melancholy wine and filled up Marlene with new letters. Sometimes they met. Marlene swore she loved him as best she could, but, more precisely, she allowed herself to love, and again he felt that happiness was possible. In a state of depression, he lived until the meeting in 1951 with Polett Goddard.

In pain and anguish, there was Erich Maria Remarque, whose biography suddenly made a happy turn.

New creative successes

After the publication of the Arc de Triomphe, he did not write for a long time. But with Paulette he again began to work. In 1952, the "Spark of Life" was published, a novel dedicated to a sister who was murdered by the Nazis. In 1954 the new work "Time to live and time to die" is published. In 1956, in the novel "The Black Obelisk", Remarque will describe the real events of his youth. All this time, Polett Goddard is near. In this pair Remarque allowed himself to love. Their wedding will take place in 1958, as well as returning to Switzerland.

So in the fifties on the creative rise is the biography of Remarque. In short, the writer will create two more novels: "Life on loan" (1959) and "Night in Lisbon" (1963).

Awards of the Motherland

Germany appreciates that she has such an outstanding contemporary writer. The government even awards it with an order, but, as if in mockery, citizenship does not return. This forced recognition of merit is not respected. While living in Switzerland, Erich Maria Remarque, whose short biography flashed through seventy-two years, already worries about his health under the supervision of his wife. When he quietly dies of a heart attack in a Swiss hospital, Marlene Dietrich will send roses to his funeral. But Paulette forbids putting them on the coffin.

Today in Germany it is only respected, but in Russia it is still popular. The circulation of his books is about five million copies. Such are the biography and creativity of Remarque. In our country, they love and read it.
