The differences between AWPC and WPC. AWPC guidelines

Many weightlifters often come across such a phrase as "APWC and WPC standards". Due to the lack of information, the meaning of abbreviations, like the standards themselves, remains a mystery to them. After reading this article, you will learn:

  • What are the AWPC and WPC standards;
  • What is their fundamental difference;
  • Get data on AWPC regulations.

What is AWPC and WPC

In connection with the popularity of powerlifting, which in our time is becoming more, there are new federations of this sport. In such associations, hundreds of athletes rush, because such organizations, on the one hand, hold competitions in powerlifting, and on the other hand, they allow you to get a discharge. What is AWPC and WPC?

WPC (World Powerlifting Congress) - the organization of powerlifters, which in 1986 founded Ernie Franz. This is an international non-profit congress, which brings together under its auspices more than 30 countries. Thanks largely to this organization, powerlifting is gaining popularity as a sport all over the world. WPC performs the following functions:

  • Establishes rules for the conduct of powerlifting competitions;
  • Establishes standards by which athletes can receive a discharge;
  • Creates conditions for the development of powerlifting;
  • Organizes and conducts events on the sport in question.

AWPC (Amateur World Powerlifting Congress) is a branch from the WPC professional league, which is characterized by milder regulations and strict doping control in the powerlifting competitions. Another, unofficial name AWPC - "League of Straights". This is the name given to this organization for the fact that the participants of the competition achieve their sports results without the use of chemicals to build muscle mass and enhance the physiological characteristics of the body.

Powerlifters consider it an honorary affiliation to both one and the other organization.

The difference between AWPC and WPC

As you already understood from the text above, the main differences between AWPC and WPC are the presence in one of the organizations of doping control and different "stiffness" of the standards. That is, a beginner weightlifter will hardly be able to achieve any significant results if he gets to the WPC competitions, because only professional powerlifters who have been involved in this sport for many years participate, and often do not deny themselves various kinds of chemistry.

With competitions held by AWPC, things are different. AWPC regulations are available to achieve the athlete who has been involved in powerlifting for 2-3 years and has the ability to do this sport. As a rule, it is at AWPC competitions that amateur powerlifters receive their first ranks, such as a candidate for master of sports, master of sports and so on.

Summarizing the block, which describes the differences between WPC and AWPC, here are a few key points:

1. AWPC is a league that is a branch from the WPC, or, in other words, is a part of it.

2. If we talk about competitive levels, then WPC is for professionals in powerlifting, and AWPC - for masters in this sport.

3. AWPC is the "Straight League", which does not allow people who use doping to participate in the competitive process, which is not the case with WPC, where it is possible to act under the influence of chemicals.

4. AWPC specifications are softer than in WPC. This makes the amateur league more successful in terms of getting ranks.

AWPC guidelines

Let's go directly to the numbers. The APWC discharge specifications can be classified according to three parameters:

1. The type of exercise that the athlete performs:

  • Deadlift.
  • Press lying.
  • Squats.

2. By how the competitor is equipped:

  • In equipment (single-layer equipment, multi-layer equipment).
  • Without equipment.

3. Difference between discharge norms for men and women.

Below are three sub-paragraphs, under each of which are detailed tables with the norms for each of the types of exercises performed. In the left part of each of the tables the weight category of the athlete is indicated.

Squats

So, what are the AWPC standards? Squats are one of the three basic exercises for powerlifting. Under the equipment in this case, we mean bandages for brushes and knees, as well as belts.

The rules for sportsmen without equipment are as follows:

If you use multi-layer equipment, then you need to navigate these values:

If the competitor competes in single-layer equipment, the standards are as follows:

AWPC specifications: deadlift

Outfit for this basic exercise: belt, special suit, knee bandages.

So, without the equipment should be guided by the following standards:

At competitions in equipment figures slightly increase:

The bench press

We continue to consider the AWPC standards. The bench press provides such equipment: wrist bandages and a shirt (shirt).

Here's how the standards for this exercise look, if you do not use equipment:

Multilayer equipment implies an increase in parameters:

When competing in single-layer equipment, the numbers are also slightly different:

The information in the tables changes periodically. The article contains the latest data, which were approved in 2012.
