Table for the router with your own hands - convenience and money saving

Do it yourself or buy a table for the router? This question is often visited by masters who perform milling operations. After all, the table for the router, and, consequently, the milling machine reinforced in it, will allow you to perform operations that were previously only available to owners of milling woodworking machines and professional carpentry and furniture workshops. With this simple device you can make connections, form edges, and easily and safely perform many other milling operations.

Of course, you can find a ready-made version, as well as various accessories for it, on sale, but the homemade table for the router, firstly, is almost inferior to what was bought. Secondly, for the money saved you can buy yourself the same router.

Even a novice carpenter can make a table for a router with his own hands.

Select the best option should be based on your budget, workshop dimensions, as well as types of milling operations. Types of tables for the router

- Stationary (detached).

If there is a lot of free space, you can use a stationary table for the router. It is convenient to attach wheels to it for free movement from place to place. On this table, you can set up the required milling operation and leave it to the end of the work.

The milling table can be made of sheet plywood with a thickness of 12 mm. In addition to the countertop, you will need two sheets of plywood for the side walls. On each side, two support bars and two bars are more authentic for the stability of your construction.

- Portable (desktop).

If you do not often moulder or work outside your workshop, think about a portable version of the milling table. It can be compactly folded or, for example, hung on a wall, and in case of uselessness altogether removed away.

A simple version of the table for the router (shown in the 2nd figure): a sheet of plywood or chipboard with a hole for the cutter. To it is fixed a wooden or cut out from the DSP guide, which is fixed with bolts. The design itself is attached to the table using clamps.

At the very top, you need to form a groove for the cutter in the form of a semicircle. You can do it with a jigsaw or a small hacksaw. Next, drill holes for fixing bolts of the router and two holes for the mobile stop, fixed on the table with bolts.

When working with any of these versions of the milling table, do not forget that they do not have a protective casing. When moving workpieces, use a special rod and keep it always close. When working, the milling machine generates a lot of noise, and a lot of chips and sawdust scatter from the milling site. Therefore, take care of the safety of your hearing and eyes. Work with headphones and special glasses.
