Nematodes on a strawberry. What to do?

Settled nematodes on strawberries can be seen only when the plant begins to strongly alter. In a bush infested with parasites, twisted, wrinkled leaves in pale yellow or brown spots, large petioles. They can also affect the roots of plants.

Nematodes are small roundworms. Because of its microscopic dimensions (the length of an adult worm is not more than 2 mm) parasites almost always go unnoticed. The worms feed on plant cells.

Strawberry is infected by nematodes mainly through newly acquired, new seedlings. Therefore, when buying on the market young plant bushes, do not hesitate to inspect each seedling for parasites. Newly acquired cuttings can be placed for a while in quarantine, if you doubt their healthy condition.

Nematodes on strawberries live in the plants themselves. They develop using the same bush. Cold worms experience well, being in dry leaves. If you have a nematode on the strawberry on the site, do not rely on the harsh winter. Cracking frosts to these parasites are not terrible.

But there are no effective ways to combat such worms yet. When the disease is infected, the bushes are excavated and then burned. Gardeners recommend to destroy plants that are within a 1-meter radius with the affected culture.

The nematode on the strawberry (photo attached) lives up to the complete death of the bush. For the prevention of some gardeners advise before planting new plants to process the land with steam. The fact is that nematodes are afraid of high temperatures.

In general, all prevention can be conditionally reduced to two actions. First of all, it is necessary to prevent parasites from entering their dacha section from external sources. To do this, as mentioned earlier, you should be very careful about newly acquired seedlings and put them for a while in quarantine.

Well, if it turned out that the nematodes on the strawberry still settled, or they were present before, but the consequences of their actions became visible only now? The second preventive action should be aimed at preventing the spread of worms among other crops, strawberries in particular.

In specialized stores there are poisons for the destruction of nematodes. If you still decide to use this way, be sure to consider the fact that the effect of poison is a temporary phenomenon. Poisons can not destroy eggs laid by worms. Over time, the larvae will hatch, and the process will continue.
If the roots are affected by nematodes, you can try to get rid of parasites using heat treatment. The infected plant is excavated. Then the roots are freed from the ground, the entire system is immersed in a container of water (the water temperature is about 55 degrees). But again, the eggs of worms are quite resistant to this process. To destroy them, the plant in warm water should be kept for more than 20 minutes, and then there is no absolute guarantee that all the larvae will die.

Some gardeners argue that nematodes on strawberries are afraid of marigolds and marigold. With prolonged spraying of the culture with tincture prepared from these plants, dissolved in water, it is possible to get rid of worms. The treatment should be done 2 times a day for 3 weeks.
