Primus is an indispensable tourist companion!

Unfortunately, in our strange state, which provides gas throughout Europe, there are often problems with the supply of blue fuel to our own villages. And with electricity there are sometimes interruptions, which are especially unpleasant in the winter. It is the villagers, as well as the ubiquitous tourists who strive to get into the most remote places, probably help Primus. This is a kind of burner, which was invented almost after the first experiments on distillation of oil.

Operating principle

By the principle of their work, these burners are very similar to blow lamps. The fuel supplied under pressure falls into the nozzle, where it burns, giving the opportunity to cook hot food in any conditions.

This primus and are good: even if suddenly turn off electricity and gas, even if you are generally sitting in the taiga and want to just keep warm, they will allow you to quickly and without much effort to prepare food.

What are they like?

Of course, the Primus is a burner. But even such simple devices are divided into different types! More precisely, for kerosene and gasoline (marching). And here it is necessary to strictly prohibit the use of the latest version at home! You surely know about what gasoline is, and what are the characteristics of its fumes? So you can only kindle such a primus stove in marching conditions!

What model to buy?

Virtually all of their varieties were developed back in the USSR, and therefore do not differ too much from each other. Most often you can find "Record" or "Tula". You can buy them either in antique shops or on the ruins where such antiquities are often found. If you live in a fairly large city, then in the shops for tourists you can buy modern models from China.

Since the Primus is a rather outdated device, it's useless to look for it in modern hardware stores.

How to choose?

We have already said that it is difficult to find a new burner in most provincial cities (there are not many tourist shops everywhere). That is why it is necessary to dwell in detail on how among the trash to find a normally functioning Primus.

First, you should never take those models that are equipped with an iron fuel tank, which is covered with a thin layer of copper. Despite such a coating, they almost always have spots of pitting. Even in the kerosene version, they are fraught with fire, and even the use of a gasoline burner with a leaky fuel tank is a direct way to the burn center.

Do not forget that the Primus is a source of increased danger, and therefore you should approach it with the utmost care.

If there are no special caps on the burner, then such a product is also not worth buying. In general, look at the integrity of the handles, on the absence of broken or crumpled parts. Do not also take the old primus without legs, since constant fuss with stands is not only uncomfortable, but sooner or later it will end with a fire when the primus stuck in the tank, everything is flooded with fuel.

But if you found the same "Record" in good condition, then you can rejoice, because the machine is virtually eternal, there is simply nothing to break down there. But even with this fact, be sure to check the condition of the cuff on the handle of the fuel pump, and if it is not in the best condition, then cut out the replacement from the boot of the old leather boot.

Buying a Primus, whose price is about 1,5 thousand rubles, you will get a reliable and unpretentious device.
