Straightening dents without painting - what kind of technology and whether it can be used at home?

Almost every motorist faced dents on the body of his iron friend. A car with similar deformations not only looks bad, but also is more prone to corrosion. Therefore, to make the car look always beautiful and attractive, the owners try to get rid of such trouble as soon as possible. And today we will look at how denting is straightened without painting.

Reviews and the essence of PDR technology

It's not strange, but this way of eliminating deformations has been practiced in the West since the 70s of the last century. At the same time in Russia this technology is considered new and modern. The main advantage of this method, according to car owners, is the time to eliminate deformations. After all, even serious dents completely disappear in just 1.5-2 hours of the master's work. At the same time the car does not need partial painting and putty. But it's still done in some local workshops. But what is most interesting, the cost of PDR restoration work is sometimes lower than those carried out by SRT with puttying and painting. That is, the body for this technology remains in its native, factory paint. Yes, and for pre-sale preparation the use of this method is more profitable. On the one hand - quickly, but on the other - sparingly.

The very essence of this work is as follows. On the inside of the damaged area, a special tool (microlift) is applied to the deformed metal, which leads to retraction of the crushed area itself. Depending on the scale of the deformation, the work can be carried out both on the outside and inside the body.

It is worth noting that, in addition to the microlift, the master uses the basic set of consumables, which allows the most efficient and accurate restoration of the damaged metal area. All of them are presented in the photo below.

As you can see, the consumables are of different length and thickness. Due to their shape they can penetrate the most inaccessible places of the body. In the event that access to the dent is limited, adhesive technology is used. In this case, the piston is glued to the deformed section, which aligns the metal "in tune" with the rest of the body parts.

Blind Areas

It is worth noting that if the surface of the dent has traces of scratches or chips, such a zone is called blind. And the larger the area of these deformed particles, the more difficult it is to achieve the accuracy of repair and restore the paintwork to the factory state. If the scratch is small, it is treated with a special polishing enamel with a reducing effect. Scales are tinted in tone with LKP. It also happens that on the metal there were prints of paint from other cars - in this case they are also eliminated from the varnish of the restored machine.

Where is PDR technology powerless?

Unfortunately, not all dents can be restored with the help of vacuum. For example, PDR technology is powerless with a highly deformed metal or very damaged paintwork. In this case, without shpaklevki and painting can not do. That is, when there is no paint layer on the metal, the PDR will be already ineffective.

About the depth of dents

As we said earlier, straightening dents without painting is possible only if the metal is not strongly deformed. As practice shows, PDR technology is effective only at the depth of damage up to 4-5 centimeters (and that in 5% mandatory painting is necessary). If the damage is more significant, then the masters use other methods of restoration.

Where it is impossible to straighten dents without painting?

PDR technology is almost never used to restore the car's thresholds (except when there are no deformations on them without creases), the edges of the bonnet, the roof racks with sharp cracks, the edges of the trunk and doors, and the damaged sections of the panel that were formed due to impact and skewing Bodywork. However, if the dent is shallow (less than 5 centimeters) and does not affect the above-listed body parts, there is no sign of restoration using PDR technology. Paint and metal after work remain perfectly smooth and smooth.

Vacuum metal restoration at home - is it real?

Unfortunately, it is simply impossible to straighten dents without painting at home for one simple reason. The cost of one microlift with a set of consumables is at least 70 thousand rubles. Therefore, it would be most reasonable to apply for help to the workshop, where experienced specialists will perform the quality removal of the dents without painting. Selling in the stores and cheaper devices for vacuum restoration, but such a result, which is achieved with microlift and consumables, still can not be achieved - will again putty and paint the surface, but with their own hands.

So, we found out what is straightening dents without painting and how this way of restoration works.
