The most powerful computers in the world

In the understanding of most users, the most powerful computers are those that support the work of the greatest number of programs and games. There is a grain of truth in this, but do not forget about the large state-owned enterprises, where the powerful calculators are not the least important. It is about the most productive devices on the planet and will go further. It should be emphasized that the most powerful computers are divided into two main categories: working custom machines and calculators, which have an industrial and state purpose.

Custom Devices

In them, the components and the operating system are of paramount importance. As of today, the most powerful computers in this category can include three quad-core Intel Xeon E5 server-type processors, four GeForce Titan video cards, and other modern elements. It should be noted that such an aggregate will take up a lot of space and heat up too quickly. Among all the existing machines in this segment, the most powerful now is the Mac Pro 2013. It boasts an Intel Xeon E6 processor consisting of twelve cores, a large amount of RAM (32 or 64 gigabytes), and the latest AMD Fire Pro graphics card. The speed of information transfer by this machine is simply impressive: 60 gigabytes per second. According to the developers, this is largely due to the built-in high power SSD. Despite the fact that the device belongs to the category of custom, so far it is used exclusively for professional purposes.

Calculation machines

Many people are interested in the question of which computer is the most powerful on our planet. By the end of 2013, this was recognized as an aggregate developed by Chinese engineers, known as Tianhe-2. The computer includes more than three million computing cores. Due to this, it is capable of producing about 33 quadrillion operations per second. Inside the machine there are 32,000 Intel Xeon processors running simultaneously and 48,000 co-processors helping them. All the processing cores are working together thanks to a technology called "TN Express-2". As for memory, its volume in this computer is one petabyte. According to the developers, this performance has been achieved through the use of the "extreme parallelism" model used by the Phi coprocessors.

Initially, it was planned that the machine would be put into operation in 2015, but the enthusiasm of engineers allowed it to be done much earlier. At present, the most powerful computer of 2013 is located on the territory of the National Chinese University of Defense Technologies, it will repeatedly be tested in conditions of climate change, explosions and other large-scale disasters.

Other powerful machines

According to the latest official rating, the researchers identified 500 most productive installations on the planet. Analyzing these data, you can see that 253 of them work and are in the US, and 65 - in China. Another interesting feature is that the most powerful computers use Intel chips in 80 percent of cases. The company HP has created 189 machines from the list, and IBM owns 160 developments. If you look at the top ten leaders, then 4 systems belong to IBM.
