Rifle Gamo Hunter 1250: overview, specifications and photos

The legendary air rifle Gamo Hunter 1250 is designed for hunting. This is a very powerful weapon, part of the group of spring-piston rifles. Gamo Hunter 1250 makes aiming shots at a range of up to 100 m, although it can hit the target and at a greater distance. Due to its extraordinary power in some countries, this weapon was named "Hurricane".

A few words about the manufacturer

Emerging in Spain, the world-famous company Gamo has more than 50 years of history as a manufacturer of pneumatic weapons: bullets, rifles and pistols. In 1961, the pilot pneumatic gun of the firm was released to the Spanish market and immediately became popular with consumers because of its excellent quality. The first steps of the company were aimed at creating production of air rifles from guaranteed interchangeable parts.

Since 1963, the company began delivering its products to the UK. Then Gamo became a participant of international exhibitions. By 1970, the company's products were already supplied to 40 countries. In 1980, business relations with similar enterprises began in the USA, and in 1995 the corporation Gamo USA was founded.

Since 2013, 100% of the company's shares belong to the investment fund Brookman, Rosser, Sherill and Co. (B, R, S), based in New York.

The subject of our review - a powerful air rifle Gamo Hunter 1250 - is delivered to the world market since the beginning of 2000.

List of characteristics

This single-shot rifle is charged with a fracture of the barrel and combines a huge power and high accuracy. It is designed for shooting with lead bullets caliber 4,5 / 5,5 mm. The speed of the bullet is 381 m / s (in the open version), and the shot power is 36.3 J (in the open version). The number 1250 in the title refers to the English unit of speed FPS (1,250 feet per second).

It is important to note that the rifle is delivered to Russia in a weakened version with a power of 7.5 J and a bullet velocity V 0 = 175 m / s. In order to return full Gamo Hunter 1250 characteristics, it is necessary to drill a bypass hole (remember the ban on the possession of such a powerful weapon - it is criminally punishable).

The clamping force is 26.5 kg (in both versions). The weight is 4.1 kg. The total length is 123 cm, and the length of the trunk is 400 mm.

Who can use such a pneumatic screwdriver?

Of course, its power is impressive, but running around in the forest with a four-kilogram rifle is beyond everyone's power. But if you already know what the rifle "Diana" is 54 Airking, then you will have something to compare with. In any case, this weapon is intended for an experienced and strong user. The fact that the rifle is suitable for a large arrow, also confirms the fact that from the middle of the buttock to the trigger hook as much as 37 cm.

The return after the shot is such that if you have weak shoulders, it is better not to try to deal with the Gamo Hunter 1250. The rubber pad on the butt, which is designed to reduce the recoil, will not help either. In short, it is better not to take such a rifle in weak hands - it will not work out any accuracy of combat, although the weapon itself will have nothing to do with it.

But if you have already run a couple of years of emergency service with SVD, then Gamo Hunter 1250 is made for you as an order. Consider the individual options in more detail.

Butt

It is made of wood, and if it were plastic, it would mean an absolute catastrophe for this rifle. The plastic butt of the 1250 would not last long, therefore it is made in the classic Monte Carlo style from impregnated beech (in variants for the American market - from walnut) and is equipped with a rubber backplate.

In order not to slip the palm on the handle, on both sides on it the lining of fish skin is made. The same overlays are available on the forearm.

Trunk

A steel barrel 45 cm long has 12 rifling. It ends with a cylindrical blower with a diameter of 33 mm, which helps to muffle the sound of the shot somewhat. Although at the maximum speed of the bullet in the full version, it is guaranteed to overcome the sound barrier, and the cotton is noticeably loud. A blower equipped with a fly-bolt, if desired, can easily be removed.

The trunk is very firmly screwed and fastened with pins in the barrel sleeve. The latter is inserted without looseness into the "horns" of the air cylinder of the rifle. The quality of the metal prevents the risk of backlash in the future.

Goal and sight

The aiming bar (goal) has a combined plastic-metal construction and can be adjusted horizontally and vertically. It is also permissible to mount an optical sight on the rifle. For this, a knot of its "dovetail" type is welded on the barrel sleeve.

The telescopic sight should be selected according to the principle of the strength of its construction, since with a strong recoil it has a considerable load. Usually, when you install it, you remove the blower.

How to reduce the return on the Gamo Hunter 1250

Gas spring instead of twisted will achieve this. It is a cylinder with a rod filled with an inert gas. If a twisted spring during a shot always generates an oscillatory process, as a result of which there is a so-called double recoil, throwing the barrel to the side and reducing accuracy, the gas spring provides a one-time, short and softer return.

Today, such springs are manufactured in the factory way and are widely offered in the market of pneumatic weapons. Installing it in the Gamo Hunter 1250 really improves the characteristics of the rifle: reduces the impact and improves the accuracy of the shooting.

What are the most powerful pneumatic winding machines on our market?

Among the most common models can be identified Gamo Hunter 1250 and Hatsan 125 (produced in Turkey, shown in the photo below).

Both of them belong to powerful long rifles, designed for tall users. By the power of the shot, they are almost the same. Both producers, both Spanish and Turkish, declare the ability of their products to hit feathered targets at distances of up to one hundred and fifty meters (with an aimless shot). You can aim from both rifles, as already noted above, at targets at a distance of up to 100 m. And here the character of the "Turkish woman" begins to manifest in comparison with the "Spaniard".

The return from her is such that many owners who use optics, there is a characteristic injury in the form of a broken right eyebrow. The trunk at recoil performs a complex movement forward-backward-up (in this sequence!).

What is the reason for such a crazy return? The fact is that the "turkan" has a very large volume of the cylinder-compressor, so that when compressed in air, a significant energy accumulates, which on the one hand is transmitted to the bullet during the shot, and on the other - causes the appearance of a recoil pulse directed opposite to the bullet pulse Law of conservation of energy, nothing can be done).

The only way to get rid of this recoil is to replace a conventional coil spring with a gas spring. With all the seeming difficulties, this really helps to cope with the impact of both Hatsan and Gamo, and also significantly improves the accuracy of shooting.

So what to choose - "Spaniard" or "Turkish woman"?

Another important disadvantage of the Turkish rifle is the use of cheaper materials. So, the butt of her plastic and hollow, so the heavy barrel when aiming takes the rifle down, it takes a lot of effort to level off. And although the price of reducing the cost of materials is significantly reduced, but if it comes to weapons, the inevitable decline in the quality of the product can play a fatal role. There are cases when the plastic butt just burst in the frost.

The trunk of Hatsan 125 is very long - 510 mm against 400 mm from Gamo. With him it is not very convenient to wade through thickets, although in general "turkish" is half a kilogram lighter than "Spanish".

A lot of claims are expressed by users to the quality of Turkish springs. The strength of their elasticity decreases by 30 percent in a few dozen shots. But the Turkish manufacturer supplies its rifles to the Russian market without any modifications to weaken the power of their shot to the authorized 7.5 J, simply inserts a weaker spring, and adds a full-fledged spring to the Russian market, with which the shot power is the same as Have a full Gamo.

By what principle should you choose between Hatsan and Gamo hunter 1250? Feedback from users confirms the identity of their characteristics, but all of them emphasize that the "Turkish woman" needs more modifications, a kind of rifle tuning.

In general, the choice between them depends on financial possibilities. If you are strong enough and trained, but you can not buy Spaniard, since its typical price is about 31.5 thousand rubles, do not worry. The Turkish rifle will give you the same pleasure from shooting at targets and hunting for much less money (from 11.5 to 13.5 thousand rubles), but it will require a lot of muscle effort and patience when it is adjusted to the required condition. Have a good hunting!
