Pecheniz'ke Reservoir: history, natural features, recreation

In 1958, the construction of a new reservoir began near the city of Kharkov. Construction work continued for 5 years. And in 1964 the Pecheniz'ke reservoir was already functioning. Local residents call it the Salt Sea. The purpose of the creation is the water supply of the city of Kharkov. In the process of construction, some areas, in particular, villages, were flooded. Namely: Meadows, Sands, Sapovka, Pisarevka, Oktyabrskoe, Novodonovka, Komsomolskoye. Some of the settlements flooded the new reservoir only partially. This is Old Saltov, Upper Saltov, Moldovoy, Holtoml, Martov, Metallovka, Rubizhnoye.

By the way of formation, the Pechenezha Reservoir can be called a river valley. It belongs to the Seversky Donets river basin. The dam is 2,7 km long. The area of the reservoir is 86.2 square meters. The location of the reservoir and its task

Underwater animal world

This reservoir is based on the Seversky Donets River. On the perimeter of its shoreline there are stunning and picturesque landscapes. A variety of water recreation is offered: yachting, romantic walks on boats, catamarans and other water transport. The right bank of the reservoir is very high and steep, with a chic oak forest growing on it. The left one is low and flat, there is basically a coniferous forest.

On the banks of the reservoir dense vegetation prevails, here you can enjoy picking mushrooms and berries, and just come to relax with your family and friends, cook shish kebabs and swim, play games in nature. It is also a splendid place for archaeological excavations, which are annually held here.

Pecheniz'ke reservoir, thanks to its unique animal world, became famous throughout the world. There is a whole park organized here. It is called "Pecheniz'ke field", the territory is under protection, as it is home to a large number of various amazing animals. Some of these species are listed in the Red Book of Europe. The rest of the representatives (there are 18 in all) - in the Red Book of Ukraine and 14 species is under the protection of the Kharkov region. "Pecheniz'ke field" is located on the shore of the reservoir among the abundance of recreation centers and sports facilities, as well as children's camps.
