Administrative districts (Kharkov): Dzerzhinsky, Ordzhonikidzevsky, Moscow

Many large cities of the post-Soviet space are also divided into administrative regions. Kharkov is not an exception. How many districts are there in the first capital of Ukraine? When did they arise? And which one is the largest in terms of area? The answers to all these questions you will find in our article.

All administrative districts (Kharkov)

The so-called first capital of Ukraine consists of nine administrative districts. It:

  • Kievsky;
  • Dzerzhinsky;
  • October;
  • Leninist;
  • Kominternovsky;
  • Moscow;
  • Frunzensky;
  • Ordzhonikidzevsky;
  • Chervonozavodskaya.

The largest area is the Kiev region, and the population - Moscow. On average, about 160 thousand people live in each district of the city.

It should be noted one interesting feature that the administrative districts have in this city. Kharkov differs in its rounded form in its structure (like Moscow). And the boundaries of its districts are carried out in the form of sectors: they, like pieces of a huge pie, almost all converge at sharp angles in the center of a megacity.

Recently the so-called Decommunization Law was adopted in Ukraine, according to which all toponyms associated with the Soviet past should be renamed in the country. In November 2015, a special commission, established in Kharkov, renamed three urban districts: Oktyabrsky, Dzerzhinsky and Frunzensky. However, the names of all these regions have remained unchanged! For example, the Dzerzhinsky district is now named not in honor of the odious communist figure, but in honor of another Dzerzhinsky, the director of the Kharkov zemstvo hospital. The Frunzensky district will henceforth bear the name of an outstanding pilot, and the name of the Oktyabrsky district of Kharkov is now connected with the month in which Ukraine was liberated from Hitler's invaders.

History of the formation of administrative districts of the city

In the museum archives of Kharkiv, the city plan, dated 1788, was preserved. Even then, there were the first attempts to divide the urban space. So, Kharkov at that time counted fifteen thousand households and divided into three parts: the center, Zakharkov and Zalopan.

One of the first in the city was officially established Oktyabrsky district. This happened in 1917. And as of 1919, Kharkiv was already divided into three administrative regions. A little later on the city map there were also new ones. So, Ordzhonikidzevsky district of Kharkov was established in 1936, Stalin - in 1937, Kominternovsky - in 1938-m.

For more effective management of the new administrative units, district councils (within the city) were created. However, in 2009, by the decision of city deputies, these bodies were abolished.

Moscow region (Kharkov): a record for the population

In the largest population of the Moscow region, there are more than 300 thousand Kharkov residents. Originally it was called "Stalin", but in 1961 it was renamed in honor of Moscow Avenue - the main thoroughfare of the city.

The Moscow area is very green: the total area of all parks, squares and other plantations is 460 hectares. It is curious that industrial enterprises in this part of Kharkov are almost as many as schools (33 and 37 respectively). The most famous of them - "Promelektro", "Saltovsky bakery", HELZ. On the territory of the Moscow region, there is the only diorama in Ukraine dedicated to the war in Afghanistan.

Dzerzhinsky district: the center of higher education

Dzerzhinsky district of Kharkov appeared on the map of the city in 1932 and did not change its name even once. It is the second most populous (about 15% of urban residents live here).

In Dzerzhinsky district there are 18 universities, in which about 70,000 young people study. The most famous among these educational institutions is the Kharkov National University named after A.Sh. VN Karazin, which was founded 200 years ago.

Quite a lot in the area and tourist sites, and attractions. Among them - a historical museum, a monument to Shevchenko, the Intercession Monastery and the largest in Europe Freedom Square.

Ordzhonikidzevsky district: stronghold of heavy industry

Ordzhonikidzevsky district of Kharkov is small both in area and in population. His education is closely connected with the construction of the famous Kharkov Tractor Plant (KhTZ) in the 30s. A little later, like other mushrooms after the rain, other industrial giants also grew.

A total of 29 enterprises are operating today in the district. Among them is the industrial cluster "Rogan", which includes a brewery, a dairy plant and the "Ahmad" factory. The development of this production unit continues in our days.

Finally...

In many large cities there is an additional division into administrative regions. Kharkov is also one of them. The first districts in this city were established in the early twentieth century.

To date, Kharkiv is divided into 9 administrative districts, the largest of which is Kiev.
